N-400: important info for anyone waiting for the interview letter

Good Morning All,

I had my fingerprints done in the beginning of September in Philadelphia, PA. I've been waiting, since my fingerprints day, to receive the interview letter.

When checking my status online I still have "Request for Evidence" as current status.

I decided to take extras steps today to find out what is going on: I called the USCIS and after giving them my application number the customer service representative did not do anything else but reading his screen to tell me that they request for evidence....and so on.

I told him that the evidence the are talking about is my fingerprints which are done but unfortunately he could not say anything more.

Then I called the FBI and found out (the FBI Customer Rep was very professional and nice) that they received my fingerprints, worked on them and sent them back to USCIS the same day they received it.

I called back the USCIS with my reply from the FBI and they transferred me to a manager who nicely told me that I'm in queue for an interview and that I'll receive the letter soon.

I just wanted to share my experience in case someone is in the same situation.

Have a blessing day.

What it is the FBI number? I want to call them. Also after you talked to the USCIS supervisor, did your status on-line changed?

Hi Abdarach,

Thanks for helpfully sharing about your experience of calling the USCIS and FBI regarding your N-400 case. Thanks too, for providing the phone number for the FBI. Sorry to hear that you had a delay in your case, but it's good that you inquired further about it, and got some answers, as some people are caught in background/name checks for a long time, which is not a good thing....

Likewise, I'm waiting for the interview letter too, and if I don't get such in the next few weeks, I'll be doing like you recommended (lol..though I don't look forward to calling the FBI...yikes...). Lol..it's better to inquire, than to do nothing at all...I suppose...

Hope you get your interview letter and interview date soon, especially since you made them aware of the problem and that you are now in queue for such. Good luck with the rest of your immigration journey. And yes, do keep us updated about your case...

I don't know how accurate their system is since my I-751 application is still reflecting as if it's being processed and I got my green card in March .

I wouldn't worry about it too much... Like all government, their systems aren't all that efficient as they would like us to think :star:.

I had a blast dealing with the IL gov't; somewhat like going back to the Middle Ages lol. Files completely messed up, everybody on a different page, a complete disarray. USCIS' system doesn't seem much better.

Their case status online system is the pits. My citizenship application is still last updated as received in May 2009. I took my citizenship oath in August. Getting your call escalated to an actual Immigration Officer from the call center employee ( who is not trained in immigration but only reads off of a script in front of them or the same web access to USCIS as you do) is the best way to go.

Really had to hound the USCIS when that one year extension was about to expire for the I-751. But someone paranoid about pestering them with a new application. Someone there may just well put your application in the back of the stack if you make an inquiry. What's the rush with USC? By that time you should have your ten year card and a nenewed foreign passpot. We even sent our N-400 with a huge stack of evidence, first class mail, can only wonder if you send it overnight where a signature is required if they toss your application in the bottom of some pile.

Never pestered the USCIS during our AOS took four months to get the EAD cards, and seven for the conditional, but we were having too much fun with our new life to even be concerned about it, with the EAD, we were good for a year. Same with the N-400, while our NOA stated 322 days, the entire process to the oath ceremony took 180 days. But did contact my senator when wife's IO promised her an oath letter within two weeks and four weeks went by, actually got a letter of apology from the USCIS. It was that damned I-751 that really teed me off, our application was misplaced, senator again to the rescue.

Logic dictates, if you pester the USCIS, only delays your application. What the real key is to double and triple check your forms and supply an over abundance of evidence, any errors on your part would really cause delays. Also to provide a very neat package, we highlighted all the parts on our evidence to make it easy for them to look it over and everything was categorized, forms and required identification, joint taxes, joint ownership, joint bank accounts, joint insurance, and joint miscellaneous. If you send a mess, can see where that person processing your application will get teed off. That has to be a very boring job.
