Pretty down today! I called NVC and they do not have anything as far as my interview scheduled... Plus, the lady was an idiot and insisted that LAST week was the second week of the month and they they are JUST finishing up scheduling some interviews now... Which I was told by 5 operators before that THIS week is considered the 2nd week and they are JUST starting scheduling the interviews...

Any hoo... I got myself in a rut thinking that "what if the schedule IS all done and we dont get an interview scheduled"??? (Sorry Canadian folks, I know you guys have it terrible)... But I can't help but be down today....

Hi all,

Same here Christeen, down as low as dirt, still waiting on word from Embassy for earlier interivew, I emailed them last night, so maybe a email in am tomorrow. Hubby doing all he can to extend, so maybe some luck there, **sigh** have to wait and see what hand is delt us.

I bet if you called NVC again you would get another version of when they issue interivews in what weeks. And we all know, they dont just issue interviews the 2nd week of each month. Our interview was issued 2 weeks before the 2nd week of October.

Truly happy!!!

New life, new adventures, and a new attitude.

Quickie question: Does it help if a Congressman speaks on a petitioner's behalf? Not only to enquire about the status of the case (even though we're within the time limit) but also more along the "I-know-the-petitioner-and-he-is-a-decent-chap, could-you-please-hurry-the-process-along kind-of-way?" Or will it hinder our case? My mother-in-law grew up with a Congressman and is in regular touch with him; we're just wondering whether we should get him involved? Any thoughts?

It's been 12 days for you and you want to get a congressman involved? There are August people who still haven't been approved. I'm sure there are June filers still out there too. You must be joking...

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

I am sure they are just tininking that since they already KNOW someone, should they say anything or will it make a difference... My opinion is to save them for a "just in case you need them" scenario since I think at this point they won't make a difference in the speed...

Save it. The only time a senator or a congressman CAN get involved, is when your OFFICIALLY past the posted USCIS processing times.

I personally know our Congressman and a Texas Senator, and 2 Judges, they could not even assist me when USCIS was screwing up our case, and lost some requested evidence.

Probably a good idea Christeen! I just know one of our August buddies is still waiting, so I'm a little defensive. Waiting less than two weeks after your NOA1 is nothing! I just wish all the ones before us would finally get approved at CSC.

No need to get all defensive. I wasn't planning to cut the queue or anything. I understand that there are other people waiting and that it must be equally hard on them. I didn't exactly say, "I've been waiting 12 whole days, where the hell is our approval? I demand to be given preferential treatment." Just that here's this person my mother-in-law knows quite well, does it make any sense to for us to involve him since it'll only take a courtesy phone call? Will it help? That's all. I understand we're all antsy, and we're all here to help one another but whether you admit it or not, we're all looking out for our own interests, at the end of the day.

Also, if you notice, my packet was received on 3rd September and they cancelled it (wrongly) due to incorrect filing location and we didn't know about it till the 29th. Our NOA1 should have come way sooner, and there are a bunch of September filers who filed around the same time as us and they've already been approved.

Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'll save it, incase we really need it. :)

It's all good! You know how sometimes you can read posts/emails wrong (as we probably all know in our communication with our foreign spouses!). I think I misunderstood what you were saying. One of my August buddies is still waiting for her approval, and we're all anxious in that thread! Anyway, too bad your packet was incorrectly filed. The time that added must drive you crazy! I admit I'm a little on edge these days, even if things are going smoothly with my hubby's petition. I'm just so sick of all of this and want to see him! Good luck-hope you get your approval soon!

Haha. I know! Sometimes the tone of the post/email can be seriously misinterpreted.

Good luck to you and your friend. Godspeed. :)

And yeah, it sucks. Because it wasn't even our fault. We filed correctly at Chicago and when after nearly a month we hadn't received our NOA1, we called up USCIS and they tried to convince us that it should have gone to Detroit since my husband is from Michigan. We were like #######, I think NOT. After my husband ripped them a new one, they issued us our NOA1 promptly. His "Is this how you treat American citizens who've put their lives on hold for you" spiel sent them scurrying into action. Sometimes I wonder if yelling is the only way to get things done around a government bureaucracy. Ah. A month's worth of waiting just wasted.
