It's his birthday today, and I won't be there with him to celebrate. This sucks. I hate to think of him all alone in Michigan. But I have something planned out. We're both going to get take-out Chinese food, watch Seven Pounds on DVD and I'll cut a cake for him here. And of course, we'll have Skype running while we do all of it together. It's unforgivably cheesy, I know, but it's the best I could come up with. I was hoping to surprise him with a cake but there are no deliveries on Sundays.

sachinky, NO it is NOT cheesy!! It is beautiful!!!

We did this many times, dinners together in front of webcamera, birthdays, Christmas on webcamera,

Its wonderful Hon, its the closest thing we have then actually being there.

Last year I was able to be there on his birthday, and our honeymoon we had Valentines day together. He wanted me to say a few days longer, cause my birthday was only 3 days later when I left Paris.

Truly happy!!!

New life, new adventures, and a new attitude.

What cruise line was he one? Gotta love Holland-America *cough cough* haha

My husband was 1st Engineer and Staff Chief Engineer with Carnival.... If I don't take another cruise the rest of my life, I'll be fine!!! I tried working onboard as karaoke host... Made it 1 month!!!!

I saw that you and your wife are crew... What'cha do??

My dear depressed VJer's,

I had a thought, we may be depressed with our situration of being apart on this journey, but I thought, we are the lucky ones, we have someone, there are so many alone out there with nobody in their lives. Who would trade places with us in a heartbeat, even with all the aggravation with USCIS, waiting at NVC, and waiting for interivew, we are the lucky ones, cause we have our loves, even miles and an ocean away, we are all plannning on seeing our lifes treasure soon.

Good night all. Be happy for what we have, for this is our life.

I love you my Buttercup, see you soon in Paris. XOXO

Very well Stated!!!! G'nite

Well said Paris!!

We were on board for only one contract.

She was the lead singer of the sing/dance cast and I was a fitness instructor.

She worked 3 nights a week and got paid very well for 6 hours a week.

I worked 6 days a week from 5am-8pm. With only commission haha. Holland america cruise line passangers = 60yrs+ so very rarely that i got many clients hahaha

Chief engineer, huh? What a Cushy job! Ordering people around and what not haha, nah lots of responsibility... I guess

Sorry, the only memory I have of Chief Engineers on cruise ships is loud singing and lots of amstel lite and coronas hahaha... Oh, and Darts in the OB...

For my husband it was LOTS of responsibility.... Like the entire ship was his responsibility (Staff Chief Engineer)... Nice cabin, good pay but always on duty!!! All the time away was getting to us and he got a great offer here in Florida.... But on Carnival, all the officers are Italian, red wine and pasta!!!

Plus...not many people get to have romantic trips around the world like we do!

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

Today is my birthday and my husband made it a special one. I got surprise calls from his family and friends in Pakistan and I had my friends and family that were here for my party talk to him on the cam. I was able to forget for a while the whole immigration thing and that was the best present of all.

Yes, Skype is a beautiful thing...we've had lots of dinners and whatever together this way...Nigel would take me to the pub when he had a laptop and people would come by and say hello and so forth...was really awesome...I'd flash him on cam when nobody was looking, it was funny has hell....lol...ok well I still do that...hehe. I'm all pissy cause some folks are getting interviews in London and I still have to phone the DOS to see i we have one yet...and well Monday's a holiday so STILL gotta bloody wait....AARRRGH. This waiting is just making me so upset....and anxiety on if we did things right...etc..etc...always something you know....and the loneliness over here....

Quickie question: Does it help if a Congressman speaks on a petitioner's behalf? Not only to enquire about the status of the case (even though we're within the time limit) but also more along the "I-know-the-petitioner-and-he-is-a-decent-chap, could-you-please-hurry-the-process-along kind-of-way?" Or will it hinder our case? My mother-in-law grew up with a Congressman and is in regular touch with him; we're just wondering whether we should get him involved? Any thoughts?

Pretty down today! I called NVC and they do not have anything as far as my interview scheduled... Plus, the lady was an idiot and insisted that LAST week was the second week of the month and they they are JUST finishing up scheduling some interviews now... Which I was told by 5 operators before that THIS week is considered the 2nd week and they are JUST starting scheduling the interviews...

Any hoo... I got myself in a rut thinking that "what if the schedule IS all done and we dont get an interview scheduled"??? (Sorry Canadian folks, I know you guys have it terrible)... But I can't help but be down today....
