Hey all,

I'm usually in the canada forum, but I thought this forum might have some knowlege about this subject. My wife and son are due for their interview in montreal next month for the IR-1/CR-1 visas. I heard from someone that once my son is approved for the visa, once he crosses over the border, he becomes a US citizen. (I couldn't file for a birth abroad originally because I haven't lived in the US long enough.)

any thoughts?

US born, Canadian raised, Irish Blood.

Have you been married for more than 2 years? If so he will be considered a USC once he has his GC . File for a US passport for him when he gets his GC.

Yeah married for almost 4 years. So after we convert his visa over to the GC, I can just file for a passport and that gets him his citizenship? is there any kind of a citizenship card?

This is actually pretty awesome news if it pans out.

He will have a IR-2 visa.

You can submit a N-600 and get a certificate of citizenship once he has his GC. Cost $460. US passport is also proof of USC.
