Hello:

My wife and our 2 step kids received their CR1 visa in the mail. My wife removed the Visa summary sheet mistakenly from the visa to take it down to the CFO. The CFO stamped her passpots but told her she violated the visa.

I just sent my wife to the embassy to try and fix it but they turned her away - she is so upset she will not talk to me right now. Does anybody know how to fix this problem ???

It's happened numerous times and the people just went back to the embassy and got things squared away. You better call the embassy.

They would not just let anybody get inside the Embassy especially now that Embassies were being targeted for bombings or terrorism. Make a call first and schedule for an appointment. It was an honest mistake so it should be straighten out with no problem hopefully. Good luck!

Update:

The problem is that the US embassy guard would not let my wife take her cell phone into the building. They appear to allow it only if she is with a US Citizen. So - my wife paid somebody to store her phone and she got the visa fixed at Window 34.

I am surprised they would not let her store the phone with a number like they allow us to do when I went there with her last week. Now I am back in the states. Anyways - she got it all fixed so we are very happy.

True. There is this kind of market happening outside the US Embassy. I've been very skeptic about their offer to keep my cellphone for 150 pesos. I'm amazed that a kind of business like this would solely base on someone's TRUST ... I trusted them. I have no choice. It's No-can-do when somebody tries to insist against embassy's policy. So I let those people kept my cellphone and other stuffs. After four hours, I found them exactly where I left them.

Here is the article about them (Tagalog)

It's a little thing called "Security". US Embassies are prime targets for terrorism and nowadays it wouldn't be too difficult to make a small bomb inside a gutted-out cell phone. Granted a bomb that small wouldn't take out a very large section of the Embassy but it would be a victory nonetheless for any organization who wants to show that they can hit the US when they want.

With how easy it is for someone to fake documents in the PH (and many other parts of the world) it makes sense that only US Citizens can have their electronics held by Embassy Security and non-citizens aren't allowed at all.
