Hi guys

My parents are coming to visit me next week and I heard they need to fill out the Visa Waiver Program online now. I guess I am a little confused. When I entered the US on that several years back it was the card I had to fill i on the plane.

Now I am not sure of what to tell them.

I checked on the Visa Waiver Program site and also read that some airports do not fully accept the new digital VWP.

What do my parents have to do?

Thanks a bunch!!

Well yeah they are eligible for the VWP (they are British and German citizens) but I just don't know what they have to do.

Can they still fill out the card on the plane or do they need to register on that website?

And if they need to register is there a time limit on when it has to be done. For example 24 hours prior...

Go here and fill out the details. It is free to do and without it you can't board the plane. Once done lasts for 2 years. You either get approved straight away of they will let you know in 3 days. They say you can do it up to 48 hours before you fly but better sooner than later.

Yep Luke and Deanna are bang on. I registered my Aunt and Uncle today for my wedding in December - got authorisation instantly and is valid until 2011.

I filled one in back in March for when i travelled - u still have to fill forms in on the plane but thats the usual protocol anyway.

Like L&D said before, just fill it all out online and you're set...

I think that new rule went into effect sometime in the beginning of this year. If your parents booked their flight through a travel agency these guys can get the online forms filled out as well (that's what my Dad did - he simply refuses to deal with a computer himself, lol).

Your parents will still have to fill out a form on the plane as well though (the green one that they staple into the passport).

It's important to visit the .gov website that has been posted only - there are a lot of scam websites (ending on .com) out there that actually try to charge people for this which is complete bogus.

Have a great time with your family ;)
