Hi guys,

so I and my beautiful and wonderful wife are starting the process to get a green card for me (I am italian, wife is US citizen) filing DCF here in Italy.

We would like to know: any recommendation? Any hint to make things go fast and smooth?

I have a couple of questions:

1. Should we both fill a G-325A form?

2. When is the I-864 form due? Now or at the time of interview? If I decide to sponsor myself, how much in assets should I demostrate to have? Would the value of a house I co-own with my uncke and thaty is on sale be accepted?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Roberto

In general you need I-864 at the time of the interview, but some consulates accept it at the time of the petition.

In Japan, the USE website says they strongly recommend to bring I-864 at the time of petition.

You cannot be a sponsor.

The petitioner (Your wife, USC) is always the primary sponsor and if her income in Italy is not continuous, you will need either assets or a cosponsor to meet the financial requirement.

As for the amount of assets and your house, read I-864. It clearly states what you need.

Good luck.

Hi again,

thanks for the reply below!

so, the form I-864 states:

"You may include the net value of your home as an asset. Thenet value of the home is the appraised value of the home, minus the sum of any and all loans secured by a mortgage, trust deed, or other lien on the home. If you wish to includethe net value of your home, this, you must includedocumentation demonstrating that you own it, a recentappraisal by a licensed appraiser, and evidence of the amountof any and all loans secured by a mortgage, trust deed, orother lien on the home. You may not include the net value anautomobile unless you show that you have more than oneautomobile, and at least one automobile is not included as an asset."

I plan to use my assets to finance myself. These amount to about 8000 euros in my bank account (11500 usd) and the ownership of the 50% of two houses. Can I use those for sponsoring myself with my wife? Also, one of these co-owned houses is for sale, hence I reasonably will get the money for it within 12 months (being on sale means that the other co-owner - my uncle - doesn't pose an abstacle to me getting the money out of it right?).

Is this enough?

thanks a lot!
