Thank you flypri. I think I will sleep a little easier now that I've read this. :)

We didn't think we'd need a preparation session, but I can see now that it was completely helpful in your case. I will look around our area and find out if anyone is offering it. And I'm very surprised to hear that they used to be suspicious about maintaining your separate accounts. We didn't think twice about that when we decided to open our joint account. I suppose if it does come up we will explain why. :)

I apologize if this was confusing, but I just want to clarify - according to the attorney we consulted it is suspicious to have ONLY separate accounts and have no joint account. She never said also keeping separate accounts is suspicious. They just want to see that you have joint bank accounts at the interview.

Thanks Rebecca :star:

Thanks and Congrats Laurelmike =)

Congrats SoCal!!!!! That was a very quick interview!!

Congrats to you too KM24!! Yes keep in touch because we'll have to apply again in less than 2 years!!

Thanks ReeRee.. =)

We got the approval notices for I-130 and I-485 on Monday, and I got my GC in the mail today

I can't believe I am done until Oct 22nd 2011!

Do I need to go to the SSA to get an unrestricted card or can I just keep using the restricted one?

I tried calling their 1-800 number, but after listening to the auto attendant read the same recording about Medicaid for the fifth time I gave up.

Congrats! =) You should go to the SSA and let them update your file.. and they will give you new SS card..

Congrats EvilMonkee!

I agree with KM over the SS, def go get restrictions removed at some point before you file for ROC. Reason being on the off chance you decide to job search during ROC and ROC is delayed and your GC expires. If you've removed the restrictions when you get hired an employer can accept a driver license and unrestricted social security card... They can't accept an expired green card. Nor a driver license and restricted social security card - even if you tell them you're a green card holder. Though if your employment is secure, so long's the green card is valid at hire time, the employer can't legally ask for a new green card.

It's up to you, maybe as I work in HR I see it a little different, I think it's good to have more options on what documents you can show when you get a new job. Not always have to show the green card for everything. Also wouldn't want to risk being in immigration limbo again should ROC be slow.

Received approval email for I-485

Congrats LaurelMike so happy for all you guys!

Guess what happened to me last night! I received 2 text messages that my case is updated, so I checked my email. There were 2 emails from USCIS said that I-485 & I-130 are both approved! They mailed the official welcoming notice with Green card on Jan 26th(which is the day I did my interview)! It's hard to believe that I got the approval notice this quickly. I don't believe why that officer marked my case need further review! hum.

Anyway I'm soooo relieved and can't wait to get those mails. Thank you all for the support!!!!!

About the SSC, All I need is to go to the one of the office with green card(If I get it ^^) & existing card? They're going to issue the new one without the restriction words? I'm wondering that I can change my last name to my husband as well(which is that I've done all the AOS with this new name)? Do I need to carry my original marriage license or just copy will work?

I haven't experienced the restriction part process yet - hopefully I will soon fingers crossed! Though someone else will know on here...

But I do know about the name change. I changed my name at the SSA when I got my EAD. They asked to see the certified marriage cert (the certificate not the license - they just look at it and enter in the number in the system, but they won't accept copies of the certified copy) and green card (to which I explained I had EAD so they checked that instead.)

They didn't ask for the old SS card back.

The SS person told me that the name on your USCIS document/green card is what they put on the card. The 2 have to match. So since you've used your new name for your AOS you should be all set on the name change part.

Mine took 8 days to arrive...

Congrats again on your approval
