You can go to the PSB in her town and get a temporary residency permit. You'll need to bring 1) yerself 2) yer passport 3) yer wife 4) her china id card 5) her hukuo book.

Time for turn-around varied by 'where you are' . There are two types of PSB offices as well (Police Security Bureau ) - usually the LARGER office can handle the permit. It's not a VISA, per se, but a temporary residency permit. YOU qualify for one as you are married to a PRC person, and living with her. It gives you no rights to work, of course.

A Temp Residency Permit has a duration between 3 months to 2 years, again - depending on where you are.

Where you are also is important - there are some regions of China that DO NOT grant this - so instead you can get your Visitors Visa EXTENDED for 6 months - I can't remember the name of the office that handles that :(

Be Good !! and Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I would suggest 'a week' - but even if you do it 'the day before it expires' you will be ok - these things are ALWAYs granted - is good cash flow for the PSB. When you are 'past the date' it is still ok - you will have the receipt, given to you, the day you applied, and that allows you to stay, at least until the 'thing' is issued to you.
