For tax returns

Thank you guys for clearing up this information for me. My fiancè does not work for himself, however we do have a letter of employment to go with the tax returns. We just wanted to make sure we have the right kind of documentation for showing the tax returns seeing how I feel this might be the most important (?) way of proving our finances. Once again thank you for helping us out, my fiancè's going to call first thing in the morning to get the tax transcripts for the three last years.

No problem but you don't sent tax returns unless you work for yourself. The form says letter from the bank, letter from employer. The tax return is kinda irrelevant unless you work for yourself because it doesn't prove that you haven't been getting other forms of income that you haven't declared. Sure if you wanna include the tax return AND the letter from the bank AND the employer letter.. but it's not what they're asking for and I loath to do anything they don't ask, or to do something against what you're directly told... Not being mean, just saying.

Tax returns are not the most important, but you should give the last years return even if he is employed. It shows a past, present (check stubs) and future (employer letter) history of employment. Some guy you do not know is going to make a judgement about your fiance(e)s (or your) abilty to support someone. I would give them all the ammunition I could to make decision in your favor. You are doing it right. Trying to split hairs or read them the rules (which they do not have to go by, consulates have huge latitude in this regard) could cause you problems. You have the "goods" .....lay it on 'em!
