I answered but from the perspective of my Husband and from when we were living in the U.S. - he was underemployed and he did have his wages reduced in the short time he was working there (8% reduction across the board for everyone employed there).

Those weren't the only cuts they made though. He actually worked for a medical hair restoration company (in IT). They have a call center. Normally the call center people would answer calls from people inquiring about options and if the person booked an appointment they would get a commission.

They changed that so that the potential client actually had to book the hair replacement procedure for the call center person to get any commission. How unfair is that?

^ Gah.

I was expecting to see many answer underemployed. I will soon be underemployed (few weeks) once our new contract is ratified and we're reduced by 2-3 working days a month. Which is essentially equivalent to a 10-15% wage reduction. On top of an extra $100 a month for health insurance since the state is going to be contributing less to the premium. I fortunately have coverage thru Chris' work and won't bear an extra hundred dollars. Not sure what my coworkers are going to do.

Yes, they did the same thing, increased the health ins. premiums by $100 and made everyone who had premium plans buy the almost useless plan. How is that going to work out for you MrsCat - are you going to be looking for employment elsewhere or just ride this out to see if they increase the hours again?

Some days I just want back to AB. Lucky-ducky. :P

The furlough will be for 2 years or until the economic situation of the state improves. So I'll still keep looking for a new job. As it is I commute 3 hours a day, so any job this point that is closer to the house will pay more after my wage reduction and gas.

The only silver lining is that I work at the unemployment office, and we might get an exemption from the furloughs because there is no shortage of work at this point. And we can't keep up.

And of course, we're still thinking about moving to AK. Its where our (L) is.

Self-Employed. Work continues to slow down, comes in spurts. The summer peak really didn't happen this year, even with less competition than last year, and despite lower gas prices than last year. Suppliers have cut way back on inventory, and manufacturers have cut production, with fewer production cycles. Thefore, I am experiencing long wait times for deliveries on major items, not just special order items.

Well so far, according to our completely unscientific poll, that there is no recession. Most people's incomes have grown over the past year.

mine sure has, but that may be due to my nigerian scam business doing very well.
