NVS demands original copies of beneficiary's birth certificate and marriage certificate but the original that I have are laminated. Is it a problem?

2009-09-30 -> I-129 Approved

2009-09-30 -> I-130 Approved

2009-10-14 -> NVC Received

2009-10-15 -> Received/Sent DS-3032

2009-10-15 -> Received/Paid I-864 Bill

2009-10-19 -> Send I-864 Packet

2009-10-26 -> NVC Received DS-3032

2009-10-28 -> Receive/Pay IV Bill Pay

2009-10-29 -> Send DS-230 (Overnight)

2009-10-30 -> NVC Received (DS-230) 11:00 AM

2009-11-03 -> NVC Entered DS-230 in system.

2009-11-09 -> Received email requesting DS-230....

2009-11-12 -> Log in to Consular Electronic App Center failed!!

2009-11-13 -> Case complete

2010-01-12 -> Rescheduled from [2010-01-25] Interview [Approved]

2010-01-14 -> Pick up passport.

2010-01-17 -> Depart

Cool..Yes there are stamps of the administrative officer as well as the issuing goverment entity.

So you did experience any issues with it right?

FYI ---Just spoke with NVC and they told me that laminated are not acceptable and I need to get original without lamination.. :(..

May be I should send it in and take my chances or have my wife send new ones..

May be I should send it in and take my chances or have my wife send new ones..

why they have problems with laminated, anyway talk few more operators some time they all have something else to say. Otherwise do as they say.

Not all documents submitted are returned. So if these laminated items have sentimental value it would be safer to obtain certified copies from the issuing offices so that you do not end up losing your laminated items.

Yes- laminated originals are usually viewed as unusable.

Lesson for others - don't do this to original documents (including birth, death, marriage certificates, social security cards, etc). You can store them in a sleeve (one made of the proper plastic so the documents don't stick or otherwise deteriorate) but don't laminate them. :thumbs:

Agreed. It also doesn't really protect them permanently, as documents DO deteriorate within the laminate. Sometimes more quickly, due to the chemicals in the plastic.
