Visiting with only first NOA

We're still getting stuff together before Tim sends in the K-1 Petition. I understand it would be a couple weeks before he would receive the first NOA.

I've read that it is good to have proof anytime I want to travel to see Tim, that the petition is being processed. I didn't have any trouble crossing the last time, but the next time (around Christmas), I am considering visiting for up to 6 months. My job will allow me the time off, and will provide me with a letter stating I can return to work when I get back.

My question is, would receipt of the first NOA be good enough, as well as the letter from work, and of course a return flight ticket?

It'd be awful to plan something like that, only to be told I can't stay 6 months. I do understand however that the decision is entirely up to the border guards.

I'd also like to hear about people's experiences regarding visiting their fiances at various stages of the visa process. I know I've read a couple threads on VJ about that exact thing, but can't seem to find them now. If anyone can point me in that direction I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for all replies.

Hi,

There are many many threads on this subject in the Canada forum http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showforum=93

No one can actually tell you what is 'enough' proof of ties to Canada. Like you said, it's up the the border person on the day. They look to see if you are trying to reside in the U.S. rather than just visit. 6 months is kind of a long visit, so it's hard to say.
