Danno, knowledge isn't dangerous. You are dazzled by whatever religious readings you buy into thinking that sex education is a bad idea because you erroniously believe this ridiculous idea that sex education demands that teenagers factually experiment with sexual knowledge in a way that could not were they not to have been given this information. That is absurd. Sex education is not indoctrination into any value system at all it is simply a very efficient way to ensure that all teenagers are armed with knowledge about sex and its implications, not heresay and superstition.

Nothing at all to do with values and politics Danno, not one darned thing.

Funny you mention that because a number of years ago, some people abjected to the suggesting that being a "single mother" being a bad-thing.

Why.... because some of the kids in the class are in fact, the product of a single mother.

And so it gets more and more silly, which leads me to believe all needed info can be taught in a biology class and let the learning take place on that level.

Conversations about "fisting"... I'm thinking, don't have a place in school... yet they are.

Again, what has this to do with values and politics? Being a single mother isn't a product of a political or value system. How on earth did you come to the conclusion that it is? What is being taught in schools is that simply because a child is born into single parent family that does not mean there is something wrong with either the child or the parent and that all children in schools should be treated with respect by both their peers and their teachers regardless of what their background is. That is not hard concept to understand Danno. It's not hard and it's not revolutionary, it's fair and proper.

I don't know of any sex education classes where a discussion on methods of sexual gratification is part of the curriculum. If any teacher is going beyond the bounds of what is appropriate, that should be addressed at an individual level but not by removing sex education from the curriculum, again that is beyond stupid.

Schools often do teach children about the consequences of sex too soon. And other responsibilities.

Schools in our county offer a class in basic living - how to balance a checkbook and do banking; how to budget; how to get the basic things in life done like have utilities turned on; etc.

As part of this class they have a 'pregnancy belly' that each student - female and male - gets to wear for 24 hours. There's another exercise done with an egg as if the egg were a baby. They have to either carry it to class or on dates or to the mall or find day-care for it without breaking it.

For 'flashback' purposes - 35 years ago when I was in high school, they taught us sex education, including how to avoid STD's. It ain't something new.

That is my whole point. WV is one of the poorest states in the Union. Actually the lowest earning state in the union. Forget about sex, schools need to start teaching these guys how to get a clue in life because clearly whatever you are doing over there, is not working.

The teenagers should be taught the consequences of sex and pregnancies and then the focus should move on. A school district should address the areas issues. Like the Appalachian or the ghettos, where people are dirt poor. Instead schools are wasting time on other bullshit, ranging from moronic parents to defending the mere mention of religion. We embraced the various beliefs back in my public school in Melb, AUS. It's also why we all got along so well with one another. As such, neither race, religion or culture was an issue. School had a massive Christmas tree and everyone enjoyed things like hot cross buns during Easter. We celebrated Buddhist and even Indian holidays too.

Celebrating culture here has another meaning, as it's only about (restricted to) celebrating Hispanic or black heritage month.

It's only a matter of time before high schools start teaching poll dancing and how to give the ideal ####### .

I'm looking forward to that

Young guys are so lucky nowadays as they have it so easy. Heck we had to beg for it back then, whereas, now it's like a buffet line.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

AMEN! BOOYAH speaks the truth, if we had white history month or "Being White in America" on CNN, well all whites would be labeled racist. The most racist people I have ever meet in the USA are black and they all expect a free handout and special treatment all the time! And it has only gotten worse with this super hero president of theirs that is actually half white. What a mess this USA is.

You can't blame teachers and the schools for everything. At some point, the parent has to step up and be a parent.

Tell me you're joking. You're acting like this is an 1957.

This is 2009, when all you have to do is lay on your back for 5 minutes and they have everyone else take care of the child.

"You have it all year". Bullcrap! How about a month where we 'specifically' acknowledge and recognize the great achievements of Caucasians and Asians? ####, you would need a decade dedicated to that.

Yes, that's right, not one responsible parent in the US today!

They are a minority. I actually go out of may way to recognize and show my appreciation for good parents. I have praised 7 people so far. Something that is a growing problem in the UK and AUS too.

PS I can see all too well how many awesome parents there are in today's underclass communities.

Booyah, you cannot do that in USA, for if you have a month dedicated to the White man accomplisments it would be considered racist by the liberal kooks in USA. There is a growing back lash among the white and non-black population in the USA, which is very sick of this double standard, and soon very soon you are going to start seeing a lot of pushing back and revolt by this part of the USA populace. A lot of white people that voted for Ovomit are very disillusioned with him now and realize he is racist toward them after all and they have a lot of voter remorse.

You must live in a very strange neighbourhood BY. Seriously, I have come across very few lame parents, and certainly no more than I have encountered any where else that I have lived.

Well it's hypocritical. On one hand you are told never to discuss or acknowledge someone by race, as it's bigoted and racist; which I agree with. Yet at the same time I constantly bombarded with black this or Hispanic that, regarding achievements. Good luck stating the negative rather than the achievements of these communities. Then we all know the drill, you're stereotyping, generalizing, racist, bigoted, a KKK loving idiot etc etc etc.

Cleo half the people in OT are weird, so I am not surprised that weird is normal to some here.

Don't tell me you're one of those parents whose kids look like a dropkick, but trendy for their emo group, and the parent has no issue with this.

You can summarize their accomplishments in a day. Hence the "black this or Hispanic that" DAY - not month or year.
