I can use this public facility to approve of sexual perversion and call it "an alternate life style," and if someone is offended, that's OK.

I can use it to condone sexual promiscuity, by dispensing condoms and calling it, "safe sex.." If someone is offended, that's OK.

I can even use this public facility to present the merits of killing an unborn baby as a "viable! means of birth control." If someone is offended, no problem...

I can designate a school day as "Earth Day" and involve students in activities to worship religiously and praise the goddess "Mother Earth" and call it "ecology..."

Homosexuality is not a sexual perversion, nor is it an alternate lifestyle. And no one in public life is asked to "approve" of it - only to ensure that homosexuals are not discriminated against in their institutions. The connotations in the first sentence above are clearly indicative of homophobia and intolerance. I'll agree with you that we are called to love all, judge none. I think that is what you're really trying to say here, possibly?

Dispensing condoms does not "condone sexual promiscuity". A coherent safe-sex message should consist of making condoms available AND ALSO urging young people in schools to be responsible in their sex lives, to strongly consider abstinence or monogamy. No one in a position of responsible authority should be condoning "promiscuity". Again - only a person with a biased agenda would twist and contort his phrasing in this way. I disagree with your first sentence, because I was once a teenager  The next couple sentences I agree with because, again, I was once a teenager  . The final sentence, sure...his agenda...but I still wish we didn't have condoms in school...

"Killing an unborn baby" is apparently intended as a euphemism for abortion. An embryo or zygote at less than 10 weeks gestation is not a "baby". This is a charged and emotional subject, with passionate feelings by many in our society. Using charged and emotionally evocative phrasing has only one purpose in mind: to divide people and to anger them, not to find common ground. To the writer of such words, an educator - I say shame on you. Scandal, we are talking about a soul here, not an embryo or zygote.

I'd be curious to see specific citations to "religious worship" and goddess terminology in the context of Earth Day. How bogus.

Ya...this one stumped me too. We should love God's creation.

BTW - Peace to you Brother...good to see you again, and I hope that you and ThantiVicky are doing well and happily married! Congrats!

The introduction of variable 'g' would in fact cause this computer that I am using to communicate you to become invalid and where would I be then?

In all seriousness, no. There is no factor 'g' available that still allows for the physical laws as we understand them to remain true if we introduce the 'g' variable. If you introduce 'g' (as in physical laws that only god has access to) into the mathamatical model of the physial laws that we use every day in order to create and maintain everything from housing to space rockets the introduction of 'g' necessarily renders every equation invalid and therefore creates chaos where currently we have order and predictability.

Madame Cleo - this is a well thought out and rational answer. I'm not a scientist claiming to know much about the laws and properties which maintain/propel our cosmos...so, fair enough.

You've completely sucked the mystery right outta me :lol::lol:

I'll keep believing

so how come people get so rowdy when people want to mention Jesus in school, but it is quite alright for allah, buddha, zeus, and the thousands of hindu gods and goddesses to be discussed. it is even ok to curse in Jesus' name? allah damn, i don't get it.

It is not alright with me. Keep it ALL out.

I concur. If we are to mention world religions as part of the Social Sciences curricula, goody. Otherwise they just don't have a place in the PUBLIC schools. Any of them.

I believe that, considering our day and time, that teaching world religions (all of them) as a part of the Social Sciences curricula would be fantastic! Teaching that class would be my 'dream job'...

Peace indeed. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on this matter and since you asked, that's mine. I am sure Hal will be right along to explain why in fact what I just wrote is wrong, flawed and still allows for the existence of 'g' ;)

Of course it's wrong and flawed because - you guessed it - "God makes everything possible".

Who needs a rational or scientific explanation when you have God to fall back on?

Peace to you too, Brother Mark, and say hi to Aam. I and Vicky are indeed well, and about to celebrate our 1-month wedding anniversary :star:

One question for you:

You would like to see fewer (hopefully vanishingly few!) abortions. Great - me too.

To my mind, the way to do that is to prevent as many unwanted pregnancies as possible.

Why on EARTH then would you want to see condoms removed from schools? Shouldn't you be in favor of handing out condoms by the bushel?

Surely the making of condoms widely available is a good thing for those who would want to see fewer abortions?

I've never quite understood that about Catholic (and Orthodox Jewish, for that matter) prohibitions on birth control.

You're probably right about H9G  . I really svck at the math and sciences (I think God shielded them from me, or at least that is my excuse for my poor grades )...but for some reason religion and God have always resonated with me. Besides, OT needs a WhackyReligion guy every once in a while to 'stir da pot'...make life teh fun ;)

And of course, you are right thinking about 'Peace'...

Besides, none of that explains every aspect of the universe, it is a vast and mysterious and humans really know squat about it - in real terms.

Amen to this statement, MC, truer words were never spoken. It really is absolutely amazing! Its amazingly fantabuloustic!

I am interested in the idea of belief - why humans evolved belief systems, how humans became the central focus in christianity and muslim relgion and the rest of the natural world is dismissed and belittled (not always but often). The social structures that a belief system create are very intersting as well, and to understand them would I suspect make one better able to create social structures when there are a significant portion of agnostics/non believers in the population. Human nature is fascinating.

 well, I buggered that up good and proper didn't I?

Hello Brother Scandal,

I'm overjoyed to hear that you and Vicky have your one month anniversary coming up, Congratulations! I'm sure that she's really settling into her new marriage/house/life...Please pass to Thanti a bushel of blessings from AAm and myself, and keep a portion of that blessing for yourself, of course ;) .

Yours is a great question brother.

I'm human, so I realize that condoms themselves become an object of scorn for people who choose to look away from the deeper issues. I also realize that myself, like most people, aren't strong enough to use much discretion, which is why I'm not in favor of issuing them in schools. It seems too 'uncontrolled'...but of course this is just my opinion. I think is an issue that belongs at home, where it can be (hopefully) better addressed.

Thats my only reason...

Peace to you Ron,

Mark

It seems to me that condoms are placed in schools because humans are fallible - not because humans are naturally promiscuous. Actually, are condoms put in schools anyway? I presume this would be high school?
