I think I'll trust the DOJs statistics over that of Googles image search ;)

Too bad this image was from the FBI: http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2007/images/con...7crimeclock.gif

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Its easy to make alarmist statements using extrapolated statistics - What does it really prove?

It says ####### all about the crime situation in the 1950s BTW.

This is a warning to stop the insults and the name calling. Continuation of the juvenile behaviour exhibited by some of the members here will lead to this thread being closed.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I don't think statistical analysis is your strong suit, BY.

Either is showing a graph illustrating violent crimes dropping from a peak. When the rate drops to level of the bottom three, then come talk to me about improvements.

People killed by means of firearms

USA: 9,369 - one killed every 56 minutes

AUS: 59 -one killed every 8,908 minutes

UK: 14 - one killed every 37,542 minutes

New Zealand: 10 - one killed every 52,560 minutes

If factoring in murder as a whole, the rate drops to 31 minutes; as pointed out by the FBI stats. What a fantastic improvement.

The graphic you posted doesn't contradict what I posted.

However, it's the private industry that promotes this behavior and covers it up as freedom of expression. You are no longer permitted to film porn in Aus. You are not permitted to buy x rate porn there.

That sucks. No wonder young Aussies are leaving their country in droves.

so that's why booyah is really here!

How many people live in New Zealand anyway? I think we have like 350-400 million?

Would this number of "people killed by firearms" include people who kill in -self defense ... or even those killed by law enforcement?

BY I am with you on the sinking social climate, whats funny is one need not even go back to the Fifties to see the stark change.

Maybe I lived a sheltered life but.... I never even heard an adult around me use the "F" word until I was like 15-16.

We are cultivating huge social problems but rest assured, no matter how bad it gets, those who worked so hard to usher it in will remind us "The good'ole Days" were just in our minds and we need to celebrate the "advances" we have made.

(not that we havn't made some, but those are divorced from the real problems we speak of)

Spot on there.

Seniors must just be lying. My own experience must have just been sheltered too. Strange consider as a 10 year old I roamed the streets and not once did I fear for my life. Nowadays and particularly in the US, even as an adult, you have to watch yourself when out in public. As Letterman who I dislike himself put it, back in the days the entire community helped look after and raise your kids. Nowadays you cannot do that. You have to worry whether they are going to be kidnapped, molested, sued or kept locked in someones basement for 20 years.

Only someone on crack, LSD or Meth would not notice the change in society.

BY, no one said society hasn't changed but as you don't actually read what people write you wouldn't know that.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
