SSN Card question

Hi everyone, my wife arrived in the US on Aug 24. its been well over a month already, how come the SSN card didnt arrive in the mail yet? I checked the box on the DS-230 for the office to assign her a SS number. I already received the green card but no news of the SSN. Anyone with a similar situation?

If you need it ASAP, it's better go apply for one to a local SSA office.

Some get a SSN right after the entry to the US, but somehow others have to wait months.

I don't know why, but it happens.

A visit to your local SSA office is advisable.....

I waited for mine to arrive in the mail for about 6 weeks from my date of arrival in the US (April 2009), after which we drove across to the local SSA office. They asked to see my passport and GC (I also took my birth cert as advised by their website and a p/c of my GC application form - didn't need to show either). They checked their records and said that they apparently could not find any info on my application, but not to worry. They took my details, had me sign a form and gave me a receipt for the fresh application. A week later my SSN card was in the mail!

Don't you normally have to apply for one? I didn't know you don't have to apply and just wait for one to come to you.

If you filled out an I-130, the application asks if you want them to go ahead and file one for you...

Go to the local SSA office, it is simply a few papers with proof of who she is, the green card, marriage documents ect ect ect... They will then have one within a month, it is not very hard. Good luck Jerome

wife wife got hers about a month ago and she arrived on June 26th. it automatically comes in the mail when you check the box on the I-130... be patient it will come.. I would worry if there is nothing after 4-5 months though... call the SS offices up and they will tell you if it's been submitted yet or not.

For K1 you need to go and apply. For CR1/IR1 it is different.
