Hi guys,

Obviously the countdown to my interview has gotten to me if I've been wondering which the right envelope to take with me to the interview is :bonk:

I see that Canada Post has two different kinds of prepaid envelopes: Xpresspost and Priority Next AM, of course the latter one is supposed to be faster...and I guess after the interview I would want to have my passport back asap... Do you think getting that Priority Next AM is just as good as long as it is pre-paid?

I know, I know...I am already ashamed having just typed this question

The letter from the Embassy that I got specifically asked for the XPresspost envelope. It's a bigger one, has gueranteed next day delivery, and cost $13.00 CAD.

I had my interview on Monday-am STILL freaking waiting for my visa. I'm to fly out on Monday night.... needless to say, I'm beginning to spaz out a bit here...

Actually both Xpresspost and Priority Next AM are exactly the same when it comes to sizes, you can have both large...Next AM is a bit more expensive, costs around $20...but if it was really faster, it would be all worthwhile :)

I had no idea-I just went with what they had requested in my interview letter... I was shocked that they-they US Consulate-had specified a Canada Post XPresspost.

*note: sorry about that evil typo up there with the word "guarantee"... it really bothers me and it won't let me edit..!

Well you could email Montreal and ask them, or you could buy the AM and be the resident envelope guinea pig - I vote for the latter :)

Why don't I? :) In the worst case scenario they will just let me out to buy the express post one ;)

Geez..what waiting can do to one's logic

Hijacker!

I remember reading something like that...for people who live in the US already and have some sort of legal status that was a possibility...but as Trailmix would say, write to MTL and ask them ;)

Yes there is some blurb somewhere about if you live in the U.S. etc etc - except, your wife doesn't live in the U.S., she lives in Canada, so really that doesn't apply.

Anyway, sometimes they offer to let you pick it up the next day, sometimes they don't (doesn't hurt to ask) - I wouldn't book a ticket, unless you want to pay to change the date if need be.

Ok well BradnKim asked the same question today in the CR1/IR1 thread, so now I remember where I saw it originally - it's in the standard email reply from Montreal:

Q11: Can I pick up the visa the same day?

A: Because of the administrative processing associated with visa issuance, it is extremely difficult to issue visas on the same day of the interview. Instead, most visas, along with the necessary supporting documents, are mailed back to applicants within one week of visa approval, using the 12" x 15" Canada Post Xpresspost envelope supplied by the visa applicant. These envelopes must be mailed to a Canadian address. If you are already a lawful resident of the United States (on a valid work visa, for example), the visa can be picked up the next business day, at noon.

So there is the lawful resident part - Sean, I don't think that's going to fly in your case as your wife is not a lawful resident - yet. However, again, they may offer it anyway.

OK. Got that gigantic Priority Next AM envelope....it's huge! I know people made fun of how big these envelops are....but man, I will look funny standing with this thing outside the consulate...almost like flying a flag...

For the record it was almost $22, next business day morning delivery. I guess looking at the other thread I will get a signature sticker for it :)
