20% of the "stimulus" has been spent. How has it helped unemployment? BY is off his rocker.

Show some data on how the 20% of the stimulus was spent on creating real jobs.

It saved, not created. Creating is not an option when your haemorrhaging.

This is true. It has probably helped to slow down the bleeding. It isn't going to be a magic fix in a couple of months. Time will tell of it's true impact.

One thing really nice about VJ, is that we don't often get others correcting others' spelling of English. After all, this is an international website, and not everyone has English as a primary language. It would be so annoying to see others routinely correcting others' CreAtuv sPelliN. Spooks breached the decorum, but in a fun way, and just to point out a British spelling.

On some newspaper comments sections, the posters go after every little spelling error. I think some divorces have been initiated for such loathsome nagging and niggling. .

Of course, misused and mangled English can be FUN!. Cheers.

It was a joke pertaining to a certain member on another forum. I'm sure BY understood.

People are losing jobs everyday people....The lines at the local feeding holes (Costco, Sam's Club, Wal Mart) are not indicative of the economy....The unemployed are not there...

People need to understand the crux of this issue......

Registered Nurse?

You'll be amazed Hyena that most developed countries have a strict and defined immigration criteria. Yes, the total opposite approach to the open boarder immigration you proposed a while back, for the US. A points system that both Canada and the UK have implemented too.

15 million Americans are without work, with many living on the street, yet 20 million illegal aliens continue to live and work here. That is lunacy.

Edited by Booyah!

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

So let me understand this crux with your assistance. In a bad economy, the stores are just as busy as during a good economy? Of course not. When there are MORE employed people, there is MORE economic activity at retail and wholesale stores. My reference and joke is, when I see a shopping mall or store as a "beehive of activity", I catch myself saying, "Recession, what recession?!"

Oh, BTW, as a matter of comparison. Go to a Detroit Costco or Walmart or Sam's and ask the managers if their stores are doing better or worse than 5 years ago...

I don't think it's something to be proud of that walmart is doing well. They have a hell of a lot to do with the demise of numerous industries in America, with their race to the bottom attitude. Walmart does well during the boom years. They do even better during recessions.

When I initially moved here I loved walmarts low price model. Until I realized how they produced these low prices. The only low cost company I have respect for is ALDI, as they pay both their suppliers and employees well.

Yes, WMT does well in a bad economy, but Detroit is a blighted ghost town. Even the nation's top retailer can't sell anything to ghosts.

Large portions of Detroit need to be bulldozed.

If the auto makers knew what is good for them, they would immediately move their headquarters out of there. After all, what sort of talent are they going to attract. You couldn't pay me half a mill a year to work there.

Actually, in the corporate sense, these big box stores are realizing an increase.....yet, the average consumer is realizing a reduction.....Especially the unemployed. Two of the local supermarket chains in Kansas City for example, are offering USDA Choice NY Strip at $4.99 per pound this week.....Last week, it was chicken breast or tenderloin at $1.99 per pound.....Fresh, brand name and so forth....Go figure....
