I get 10 sick/personal days per school term. We also have a Sick Leave Bank we can contribute to (contributions are one sick day per school term) and it's there if someone has an extreme need for it and it's a documented need (i.e. serious illness) and then it's limited to 20 days *I think*. I try not to use my sick/personal days for myself because I have a child with special needs and I never know when I'll need to be out with her. I just use hand sanitizer like a mad woman and wash my hands frequently. When a kid in my class sneezes, they automatically know to go for the hand sanitizer. So far we've not had any major absences due to any virus at all. *fingers crossed*

We get 10 days a year. Of those, 2 days can be personal days which have to be approved in advance. However, any sick days we don't use, or in my district, any sick hours we don't use, are accumulated. Some people have retired early with their accumulated sick leave, but I'm not sure if that is allowed anymore.

There is a different policy for professional leave, and there are other leaves which are not paid.

In my district, if we take more than three sick days in a row, we have to bring a doctor's note.

Regardless, they will be VERY understanding in the case of the swine flu.

When I was teaching abroad, we were not limited in our sick days, though we were expected to bring a doctor's note if we were out for several days. During SARS anyone with a fever, or anyone who had recently been to Hong Kong or Singapore or any place with reported cases of SARS was mandated to stay away from school for 2 weeks.
