What is the difference between the I-864 form and the I-134 Affidavite of Support form? I have a friend whos doing the I-864 and I was under the impression I was doing the I-134.

My friend is doing the K3, and I am doing the K1. We 'both' are using a cosponsor. Im just wanting to make sure I am doing the correct form. Thanks!

The I-134 is required when the beneficiary attends the interview at the foreign consulate. The I-864 is required when you file for adjustment of status after marriage.

Looking at both of them I dont know which one to fill out! The I-134 directions read:

FOR ALIENS SEEKING ADMISSIONS OR ADJUSTMENT AS PERMANENT RESIDENTS AS IMMEDIATE RELATIVES, FAMILY BASED IMMIGRANTS, AND CERTAIN EMPLOYMENT BASED IMMIGRANTS, AS SPECIFIED IN SECTIONS 212(A)(4)© AND 213A OF THE ACT 8 CFR PART 213A, THE PETIONING RELATIVE MUST FILE FORM I-184.

mmmmm.... Since we are engaged, Im not a realitive, so I am guessing I fill out the I-134. But searching on the interview Im not seeing any qood distinction between the two to help me know which one I'm to fill out.

Any ideas anyone???

Thanks a bunch! Really confused here. The packet 3 that he got does not state he needs the form. But its writte on the DS-156K form that it will be required paperwork.

Thank you for all your help... I am looking at the forms and I think I have just one last question.

In regards to the "cosponsor"...

Question 11. I ( ) intend ( ) do not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the person(s) named in item 3. (Check 'inetnd' indicate the exact nature and duration of the contribution. For example, if you intend to furnish room and board, state for how long, and if money, state the amount in US dollars and whether it is to be given un a lump sum, weekley, or monthly, and for how long) _________________________________________________.

* I do not know what the 'cosponsor' is supposed to write in this area.

In regards to the 'sponsor' (myself)...

Question 11. I ( ) intend ( ) do not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the person(s) named in item 3. (Check 'inetnd' indicate the exact nature and duration of the contribution. * "My" answer is: n/a (K1 visa process for permanent residence)

I seen somewhere the answers to how to write this for each cosponsor and sponsor but I cant seem to find it now. MMmmm pretty sure that was the last of my questions! lol

The answer is "NA, K-1 visa for permanent residency" This answer can be used by both the sponsor and co-sponsor as the question is NA for a K-1
