Another good reason not to get a lawyer

Ok, so I've gotten back in touch with a friend for Arizona. He married his wife back in 2005 and has been petitioning for her to go to the USA for at least 3 years.

Today I asked him what kind of visa he applied for and this is what I got :

A fiancee visa and a marriage visa. The fiancee one has a chance of getting through even though we're married, so the lawyer says. If that one hits instead of the marriage visa, the time gets cut way down.

#######? Is his lawyer crazy? If anything, applying for 2 visas would slow down the process in my opinion!

Edit: the wife is from China

rofl. I wonder if the lawyer meant to describe the K3? Since you file the 129F for it.

Either way - dumb as a doornail.

Filed: K-1 Visa Country: Canada

When I went to my interview on Monday there was a couple there and they told me they went through a lawyer. We got to chatting and they KNEW NOTHING. Their lawyer never told them the Consulate rules about no big bags or cell phones and they had to run back to the hotel TWICE. I warned them before the doors even opened and they did not believe me.

Next thing I know they are looking at all my stuff in my hands and said what's with the Expresspost envelope? To which I replied to them that you need one to have your visa sent back to you. The husband told me I was nuts and the lawyer never mentioned that and that they would get their visa immediately right then and there. I said Good Luck with that, they mail it to you. Guess what happened? Ya, they got told by the girl taking the documents to leave and find a post office or pharmacy to buy the envelope because there was NO WAY they were getting their visa in hand that day.

The wife proceeded to tell me as I was leaving that they wished they had known about VJ before, how useless their lawyer was, how much they didn't know and how sorry they were for not listening to me.

OH WELL!

 Tee-hee. Silly lawyers.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

On our interview day we were speaking with a women while waiting for our interviews. She was telling us she had a flight booked that afternoon to the US and was hoping her interview would be done in time to make it to the airport. I didn't have the heart to tell her that would be the least of her problems because she wouldn't be getting her visa that day. I don't know whether she used a lawyer or not but she obviously hadn't heard of VJ!

I feel kind of bad for that person, but at the same time... she kinda brought it upon herself.

My fiance got someone to do our petition, and I really wish he didn't.

She was going to do my G-325A based off of my passport!

I've worked/lived in way more places.

She also didn't give us an exact photocopy of the petition, so I have no clue what she sent in.

And she didn't use the evidence in which I wrote on them with RED PEN to highlight stuff, she photocopied them... ugh.

200 bucks down the drain.

Sorry new to this whole procees can you please eleborate on the Expresspost envelope? There will be so many tips like that that will be extremely helpful when I am able to finally start my paperwork processing for K-1 visa status. This is the first tip that I will make note of so that when I go for the interview, I know to take this with me.

How long after the interview happens will you be granted your visa and are able to go to the states?

I think it depends where in Canada you live.

I wouldn't be surprised if it took 9 days or so, knowing Montreal. (If you end up getting Montreal).

Though, you could get it a few days later.

Montreal is so hit and miss.

You used to be (not sure if it still is) able to do the k3, and the cr-1 at nearly the same time, and just go with which ever comes out first. sure it costs a bit more, but nothing wrong with it.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
