Lorelle, you're coming here and you didn't tell me first?!!! :o

I have to be perfectly blunt with you... HONOLULU SUCKS!

When you land, you will get off the plane and be hearded like cattle onto a "Wiki-wiki". That will take you to the stairs going down to the Immigration area, where you will be herded like cattle once again. When you enter the Immigration area, turn left and go ALL THE WAY to the end of the room. There is a counter there where you will hand some little old lady your envelope, and customs form. Since you aren't a K-1, I guess you don't have to fill out an I-94?! Not sure. She will give you a number if there are other people. Then you wait. An officer will come over and do your biometrics, then you will go to his booth, where he will finish processing you. After that, you will proceed to the back of the room where you will go down more stairs to the baggage claim. There are carts for free to put your bags on. After that, you will go to one of the exit lines, bat you eyelashes at some big Somoan, and hope they don't want to search you. HNL is infamous for that! Just be sure you claim SOME items on your declaration form. If you don't declare anything, they get suspicious. Trust me on that one!!! ;) I have always gone over to the inter-island terminal after exiting customs, so have never really paid attention to what all there is after you leave. HNL is NOT like any other international terminal, since they do not have a way of handling transit passengers. You may have to get on another "Wiki-wiki" and get off at the ticket counter for your next flight, and re-check your bags. I just hope you have plenty of time between flights, because Chutima and I got stuck for 45 minutes with Immigration.

Someone else who has ACTUALLY gone through HNL will have to tell you what happened to them if they were continuing on to the mainland. As I said, HNL is not very well organized!

Glad to hear you've finally booked your flights though, and you will be here soon! Funny thing, Chutima and I are headed for Orlando on the 18th, but will be back here on the 22nd.

Have a safe trip!!! :luv:

save yourself a little time by ensuring that you fill out your customs forms during the flight to honolulu. all the flights arriving in the usa pass these out enroute, but if you are sleeping not all flight attendants will wake you to give you one.

That's fine advice, but realize that there's really not much to fill out for someone arriving on an immigrant visa, as aussiewench's info indicates. No I-94 or I-94W is needed. Just the customs form that everyone (including US Citizens) has to fill out. And on that form, there's no need to declare your personal belongings that you're taking with you as you move. Besides, customs won't be the delay, immigration will, and there's no immigration form to fill out on the plane.

Congrats aussiewench! Relax, coming in on an immigrant visa is easy. No photos, only a little bit of paperwork. They'll type a bunch of stuff in a computer and they'll make you wait awhile, probably in a waiting room separate from the main queues, but it'll be fine. They'll ask you to confirm your address in the US, and they'll tell you about removal of conditions (if it applies to your case). And the best part is that once you get through Honolulu, you're done dealing with immigration for about two years!!!

When you check in at Sydney, they will tag your luggage through to your final airport. If you know the airport code in Florida, keep an eye on your luggage tags when you're checking in---you will see all the airports it will pass through listed in reverse order. Make sure your FL airport is the last 3 letter code (they're big letters).

When you land in HI, you'll go through Immigration and collect your bags off a belt outside. You then wheel through Customs and bat your eyes. Don't mention the Vegemite. <g>

After being welcomed in, you wheel your little cart past the officers and there should be a big luggage belt and a small desk.. maybe some guys to help you heave your luggage back onto the belt. If you have any questions at that time, there should be a rep from your airline hovering around. If you're close in time for your connecting flight, ask someone to make sure your bags make it with you. Then run.

Edited to save space

Thank you sooooo much Mo (F) That explained it beautifully. I was a little unsure if my baggage was going to stay onboard or not..thats where my confusion was coming in.

I will be doing a lot of batting eyes....and big smiles.....its irrisistable flirt6mm.gif and has never failed me lol *knock on wood*

Lorelle, you're coming here and you didn't tell me first?!!! :o

I have to be perfectly blunt with you... HONOLULU SUCKS!

Edited for space

awwwww darlin'.......thats right you are in Hawaii.....I had no idea until yesterday that I was going via HI. Thanks for the rundown. I did go through HI when I travelled to the US last year.....I had an easy time of it but realise this time will be a lil different as I am immigrating. The Samoan guys were wonderful and waved me through everything. I had originally been steered in the wrong direction and when I realised and came back to ask one of the guys doing baggage x-rays where I should go...he told me.....I asked about my baggage going through the x-ray thingy and he just waved me on through and told me not to worry about it. One guy cottoned onto me and stayed with me and lead me to where I had to go. I was a defenceless female in distress travelling for the first time flirt6mm.gif:innocent:

It works ;) hahahaha I just cant help myself.

Thanks everyone for all your great info and well wishes. It sure feels good to be almost done waiting and back in my Pirates arms.

Hi Aussie

I went to qantas web site and found the flight. I think you will stop in Honalulu(sp) for refueling.

the aircraft model wont make it directly to LAX from Syd. The type of aircraft you will being flying is a Boeing 747-300.

I would guess your POE would be LAX. It will be silly for them to unload the plane and then reload it again.

Like you said, it is the same plane to LAX. It is just a fuel stop.

Take care and I want to wish you a safe trip and enjoy your priate mate always.

Hi Yogi

Its a 747 Stretch Jet (747X) that Im going on. As well as the 400 they usually fly all the way to LAX from Sydney. Apparently my flight is not a regularly scheduled flight out of Sydney, but one they put on now and then. I had never heard of the 747 Stretch until now.

Thanks for taking the time to go look and for the well wishes. I guess I will find out for sure once I land in HI.

The 747X is not out yet. They should start flying sometime next year. Perhaps you will be on the 747-400ER (extended range)?
