hello everyone :) Im a littlle confused on changing to my married name. I understand that I can use my married name on my I-485, EAD and AP card, but on my I-693, It was still under my maiden name (I got the sealed one right now, soo too late to change if ever). will this be a problem? and lets say my name is :

First name Middle Name last name

My name: Maria Cristina Domingo Cruz

Husband: John Walters

Therefore my married name will be :

MARIA CRISTINA CRUZ WALTERS?

First name middle name last name

am I right? or should I still use:

Maria Cristina Domingo Walters?

First name middle name last name

I prefer to maintain my last name as my middle name, do I need to file at the court for name change petition?

Also, on my G325A form, should I use my married name or maiden name?

Thanks so much.

It depends on where you live and how it works where you are from. I am from PA, so when i changed my name, i had to get a paper ( my marriage certificate or the alike from the Court house) showing why i need a name change, and then i went to the Social Security office with my license, SS#, and the paper i got from the court, my name was changed in 5 minutes, and she said i would be getting a new SS# in the mail in about 6 weeks. It was that simple. It doesnt matter how technically you aline, rearrange, or change your names, its really to your descretion. I kept my last name and just hyphinated my husbands father's name onto my last name, (so it cant be seperated when we have children,) for example

Kristina Jessica Flor-Ortiz, My husbands name Alfredo Ortiz-Martinez, ortiz is my husbands father's name, so that is what 'continues' the family line, so i take his father's last name, not martinez, his mother's last name, That is why i would be kristina jessica Flor-ortiz, (flor being my maiden name), it is really up to you and if you want to drop your last name, and take your husbands last name, or keep your last name, and just add your husbands name. hope this helps.

I'd like to know if anybody from North Carolina here who had applied for AOS? did you go to the court? I read on their website that changing name after marriage doesnt need a court petition, showing the marriage Certificate is enough.

anybody?

for us filipinas, when you change your name it will be maria cristina walters. maria (first name) cristina (second/middle name) and walters (last name)

americans do not necessarily include their mother's maiden name (middle name for filipinos) so when they say middle name they are actually referring to any second name given you (cristina)

to retain your last name, you have to hyphenate your name: maria cristina domingo-walters, but that's not done normally unless your husband is ok with it, you are in a profession where you want to still be known by your last name, like if you're a celebrity, high-ranking professional etc.

in other words, maria cristina walters sounds good. no need to go to court. whatever you put on your AOS application will be what you will see on your GC.

you can go to court if you decide to change your name in the future.

don't worry about your forms showing your maiden name, they understand that you're applying as a K1 orginally

 when i applied for my SS card the first time it was fast too, however, when i went back to have it change to my married name, they gave me a hard time. they were making a fuss over my I-94 wherein my first name doesnt have a space, so, I went to USCIS, an info pass appointment, and they said that it wont be a problem, I told them my experience at ss office, they just told me that SS office was making a big deal out of nothing.
