My husband will be coming to the usa soon. After a year here he wants to visit his family for 1 or 2 weeks. Does he have to get permission to leave the country? What if there is a family emergency? Just curiuous about this so that we will know before the time comes. I have heard that 3 months before leaving he has to ask permission to leave and come back. Thanks for any help (advise) we can get!!!

Once he becomes a permanent resident (PR/Green Card in hand) he doesn't need to ask or notify anyone. What you are talking about is Advance Parole - which must be requested of planning to leave the US but do not yet have the approved PR/Green Card - and FYI, doing this is not asking for permission to leave the US, it is asking for permission to re-enter (but again, if he has his PR/Green Card already, he would not need to do this).
