We are in the process of getting out K1...filed in May. Anyway, is there any problem with trying to get a tourist visa for her to come here for her vacations?

I thought there might be a problem because she is coming to see me...will that fall under the guidelines of a travel visa? Also, is there a problem because we are in the final steps of a K1?

How hard and how much time does it take to get a tourist visa in Bogota? She is a nurse...very stable, not likely to become illegal.

Her pending K1 visa petition would make her chances on getting a tourist visa pretty much impossible. Also, being a nurse doesnt really help the situation because its prolly the most "in demand" job in the US. Consul could easily think that your fiance would change her mind as soon as she enters the US, get married, apply for AOS and EAD, easily gets a job, etc.

When you say final steps of K1, do you mean couple of months left before approval? I think it would be advisable to wait it out.

With regards to the problems it (applying for tourist visa) can bring to your K1 visa application, im not really sure.

Thanks!

Andrea and I were denied 2x for the tourist visa. She is a student at a private university and is in her last semester. I thought that would be an important tie (why would she invest so much in an education only to not return to Colombia and finish it?), but the embassy didn't buy that. The tourist visa is very hard to get in Colombia. If she does not have significant assets (car and property) and family she's leaving home (i.e. kids) and a good, stable job, expect a 'no'. Even if she has those things it may be no. I would save your time, money, and emotions.
