you'll have to check the processing times for the district office where you're being processed. You can find them on the USCIS website. It varies.

I am a new comer here, jist applied the green card, and now am waiting for the processing.........don't know how long i have to wait.I do want to find a job and work as soon as possible.Thanks.

It depends on the type of visa you started with and the type of visa you're applying for now. It also depends on where you are. I am in Oregon and I went from tourist to spouse visa - it took six months from completing and mailing forms until we had the interview and got the green card.

As for working while you're waiting for the change of status - again that depends what your original status was. For my situation, I was able to apply for a temporary work permit while my change of status request was being processed. It took less than two months to apply and receive this. Check on the ISCIS website or the helpline.

Good luck!
