Yes flood insurance in a state is the same as National Healthcare. You guys really grasp at straws, and guess what. It ain't gonna help ya.

Public option is done-with. At least until Obama doesn't face re-election.

I'll take a shot in the dark, it's the only option because there is no profit in home insurance in Florida because of all the natural disasters.

That's true in parts of Florida. There are plenty of places in the state where private homeowners insurance is available. I have private coverage and picked the best from many offers when I bought it and I keep getting offers from providers to switch my coverage to them. As a resident of Florida, however, in addition to buying insurance for my house, I am now also covering the risk for those that can't live close enough to the coastline while they can't really afford it. And those same folks then want to complain about the shared risk of and a public option in health insurance? What hypocrisy.

Stupidity shouldn't be insured against, unless you find a really stupid insurance company, or an irresponsible government.

Such as the evil, irresponsible and socialist GOP government in sunny Florida?

NFIP = National Flood Insurance Program. It's a federal program, not a state insurance.

But by all means, do remain ignorant.

Wrong. It will be back, either in the House bill, as an amendment in full Senate, or put back in the bill, during conference. We are a long way from presenting an enrolled bill to the President. There is plenty of time for more mischief. I still believe we won't know exactly what the President will sign until after he has signed it. Just think of the Stimulus Package, and all the stuff we keep finding out, day by day, and they have not even spent 20% of that yet.

 Right on! Them commies is everywhere.

Trouble reading or trouble comprehending? I was talking about two different public insurance schemes: the NFIP - a federal insurance program which enjoys broad bi-partisan support despite being an evil socialist program - and the socialist public homeowners insurance option which the GOP run state government of Florida created to make homeowners insurance available and affordable after the private insurance failed to do it.

The interesting part about the socialist FL public homeowners insurance option - and why I included it in the discussion - is that it did not lead to the destruction of the private homeowners insurance market (a consequence the uneducated and their party of NO claims is inevitable when a public insurance option competes with private insurance) and that it resulted in a significant reduction of private insurance premiums in this state. And it is interesting because the same party that created this socialist scheme here in FL is now on the record claiming that these accomplishments (availability and affordability via more competition) are impossible to achieve via a public insurance option while they managed to prove the exact opposite in a state they run.

This might be a bit much to grasp for you all at once but I'm hopeful that if you read it over repeatedly, you may get the point eventually.

Yes again the worn out "i'm smart you're dumb" argument. Makes you sound dumb in and of itself.

Flood insurance and health insurance are 2 very different things. And it isn't the have's paying for the have nots. You're being disingenuous equating the 2. Whether it be on a state or federal level.

Obama has said repeatedly that a single-payer system is what his ultimate goal is. You want to live in lala-land - fine by me. But the public option will not pass.

CAUTION.

intrade/tradesports is incorporated in Ireland and operates its servers from Ireland. It thus escapes the jurisdiction of the United States.

There is no doubt that any similar company operating in the US would be in violation of US federal law and many state laws regarding online gambling.

The legality of trading on intrade by US residents is very much in doubt (i.e. -- it's quite probably illegal for US residents to open accounts and trade on intrade).

If you read the intrade FAQ, they point out that it's at your own risk to determine the legality of doing so.

I point this out because it's quite likely a VJ TOS violation to discuss and recommend an online service that is illegal for US residents.

Having said that -- the idea of operating a futures market on predictions is way cool! I first ran across intrade in 2003 when someone pointed out to me the contracts available for Saddam Hussein being captured/killed by the end of the year.
