Where to get certificates and apostilles?

Hi everyone,

I'm happy that I discovered this site by googling...it's like a treasure!

I've been reading so many things about the DCF and still I have some questions that might sound silly to some of you but I'm starting to get a little dizzy right now... :help:

The cityhall here in Belgium asks a few papers from my "future husband" and we're not sure where to find em.

-Proof of residence. I thought driver liscense could work for that. Or does a special form or certificate excist for this?

-Certificate of nationality. You can get this at a USCIS office?

Certificate of marital status. Where to get this one?

It would be a great help if someone could answer on this and extra tips are welcome :)

Proof of residence would be something that has his name attached to an address, with a current date attached, like a phone bill or a utilities bill. Basically, it has him attached to a residence --- Addresses on Drivers licences do not necessarily show current information

Certificate of Nationality would be his birth certificate or his passport, a baptismal record might suffice in some cases as well.

Certificate of Marital Status --- since you mentioned him to be your future husband, it is likely that they will need certified papers stating he is divorced if he had ever been married prior ---

04/23 - 05/28 - 5 additional appointments with the Seattle USCIS office - to clear up the EAD issue

As for ASingle status Papers, Here is How to do it,

He must Type up a Document with all personal address info Etc. Stating he has been divorced on ____ Date of the recording of the Divorce, He must sign thi in Front of a Notary, and then, Going to the County Clerk in the County of His Residence He must get Certification again, Yeah, I KNow,,,, But You are not done yet !

Now You must take all this to the LOcal office of His State of residence Department of state for final Certification. This is not US Department of state, but the State of HIs residence.

Be sure to bring proper Identification such as a valid Driver License, Better yet his current Passport.

Now, You may also need translation into another Language after all this, Well, I think You get the Idead Now.

You may be looking for things that are exclusively European in nature.. some of them don't 'officially' exist in the US.

Where does your USC live? If in the US, a driver's licence would likely suffice for proving residence. Is this for your marriage license?

In the US we do not have a certificate of nationality. A US passport or a US birth certificate are sufficient to prove US citizenship (in the US). Find out what is an acceptable substitute for your government.

The certificate of marital status does not exist in the US. Some people can get a similar document from their State's Secretary of State. US citizens can also usually get this at the US Consulate in the European country for a small fee.

He lives in Florida, he should have it for the marriage liscense.

I thought that a birhtcertificate would be a substitute but I guess they need a certificate since they ask an apstille and a official translation for it.

This one he can get at the Embassy, but than needs to be translated and apostille on it?

In fact I want to translate all his official documents here in Belgium before he comes to Belgium for the wedding. Will that be ok if he sends me copies of everything?

The thing is that he only can stay 2 weeks so time will be short to arrange everything.

Hi,

as far as I got it right...for a Belgian cityhall they need following documents if you want to marry with a non Belgian citizen.

Letter of intent to marry (if partner can not come in person to the cityhall)

This is a paper you get from the cityhall and needs to be signed by both partners.

Than;

1) Birthcertificate + apostille + translated by sworn translator in Belgium.

2) Valid passport

3) Proof of residence

4) Proof of marital status

These 2 docs you can get in one paper through Am Emb in Belgium.

Am citizen signs in front of consul at Emb.

5) Proof of nationality

Also at the Emb

All papers need to be done, translated, stamped, apostilled, notorized,...etc...etc at least 3 or 2 weeks before the wedding date.

Since you can not get all papers at the USA, you need to pass at the Am Emb but than you need to go at least 2 weeks before the wedding day :rolleyes:
