I will tell you whether it's outsourcing or not that professors gets paid about 100k+ if they've been outsourced. Does that speak of anything? Whey are more University Professors accumulating foreigners?

There are many reasons. One of those reason that is in the top is that there are not many qualified people to fill those positions.

100K is slightly below average salary in IT with 5-10 years of experience. To pay that to a professor who has to read alllllll those books and attend allllll those boring lectures is just wrong

IT is overrated. Not many get incomes over 100K. In Boston, most of them range around 50-70k.

Not here. Making below 100K with 10+ years in IT is unheard of. With 5+ years it's not unheard of but certainly not the norm.

... some students end up paying up to $170k for their degree.

... in Art History

Another tax that must be increased is the estate tax. Which repubs had labeled the death tax, to make it sound worse than it is.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The deficit all makes sense now. The country is not collecting enough tax.

This is a good reason why the feds need to immediately implement a GST of at least 5% on everything, to get some of the tax that goes missing back.

Your first post in this thread made the following point:

Americans are simply becoming poorer and daily.

And now you want to hit those very Americans with an added sales tax? Why not go after those who can actually afford it?

I think the Fair Tax would actually be a great idea if were implemented correctly.

Possibly. Of course, it might have the unintended effect of actually changing our culture into one that values frugality.

It does both. It's just too easy not to pay tax in the US. As you guys pointed out, there are just too many deductions.

First you need to close the loophole and ensure everyone pays their share in tax, including illegal aliens, drug dealers, people earning cash in hand money etc. A federal GST is the best way to do this. As soon as AUS implemented Canada's GST, the federal government raised a huge amount of tax. Even the left wing government which initially opposed it, recently acknowledge they were wrong and recognize its success.

Then America has to get rid of the Matt's and their pie in the sky ideology and start to ensure that it looks out for Americans and American jobs. That does not mean tariffs but it certainly means doing everything it can to ensure there is no incentive to export jobs. It certainly means restricting large monopolies like walmart and promoting more competition. It also includes raising the minimum wage to at least $12 per hour. There should not be any need for a union in 2009 as the governments should have all of that down pat.

Will any change happen? hell no. This is America and we cannot even get health care reform, which actually saves your pitiful lives. No way in the world are we going to reform tax amongst other things.

You wanna get rid of Matt? :o

I vote to keep Matt.

You live in NoVa. A $12 minimum wage may make sense for you (and for me) but it doesn't make sense in Bumblefuсk, Kansas.

Maybe $9 in bumblefuck.

We just need to get rid of Matt's mentality. The rest of the developed world has proven it wrong but he still will not concede.

Raising the price floor at the wrong time will probably create more problems for employers to be in business.

Well everyone will have to start paying more. So it's relative. Instead of paying $4 for a screw driver I will need to pay $6.5. The people who enjoy cheap prices the most are the same people that have been hurt the most by it. They're just too uneducated to realize this.

As it stands, all America is doing now is making the world rich while Americans stay dirt poor.

I know, the horror!

Your personal disapproval of our consumerist culture notwithstanding, you wouldn't deny the extreme dependence our economy has on this culture.

People in New Jersey already rank as most frugal (no kidding), I definitely know why. Be it Aus or US, I guarantee you an Aldi store will have Indians in it.

All jokes aside (though they are true), the fair tax system counts on people spending; therefore, if people stopped spending, the system would be bankrupt. As a result, it is just not realistic and feasible. It's why I prefer the GST, where you pay both. You pay less income tax but more tax on any goods and service. Australia actually had a version of the fair tax but got rid of it. They had a 22% sales tax but ended up converting to the 10% GST. As under the old system, people simply spent less and bought cheaper #######.
