Terrie, I too suffered from panic attacks. When they began, it was just as you described them! I was terrified about what was happening to me. They would come on morning, noon and night. What a horrible experience to have to go thru.

Mine, like yours, were taking over my life. Didn't want to go anywhere for the fear of "i'm going to

faint". I began therapy and to my surprise I found out the cause of my attacks. It was the trauma

of my father's death that triggered them. I learned to do deep breathing exercises, meditation, and face them head on.

I have very few episodes now and when I do feel that tightnes in my chest I just stop whatever i'm doing and rub the back of my neck and breathe slowly. Works for me everytime. I find they go away faster which is such a relief.
