Hello to all;

I am currently and have been for 25 years a Permanent resident of the United States. I have a fiance I would like to bring to me but understand I cannot sponsor her. Would it be easier if we were married, or is there no other way around having to become a citizen?

I am originally from Canada, and I cannot explain, but would like to retain this if at all possible. If I cannot and there is no other way, so be it, but I have read through all the information I can and see no easier way.

Thank you for your attention, any advice appreciated.

You can't petition a fiancee, but you can petition a spouse as an LPR. The current priority date for F2A (spouse of LPR) is 1 Sep 99. Looks like it is taking over 7 years.

Thank you your quick reply;

Can you explain alittle further, or point me in a direct to pursue this? This takes seven years or I must here seven years?

It doesn't matter how long you have been here. The 7 years is how long it will take for a visa number to become avaiilable for her for F2A status.

jackpinejames, yes, it's possible to be a dual citizen of Canada and the U.S. After making the United States your home for 25 years, maybe it's time to consider this option. Of course, there's also the possibility of returning to Canada, sponsoring your financee, and living there.

Best thing is to go bring your fiancee to Canada. He should become a Canadian citizen and then move to US. It is still considerably easier than having to file as LPR. The priority dates are absurd. Untill April the priority dates were apr 02. Now they have gone back to 99. Consider this: After seven years of wait, you are finally close to bringing your spouse and suddenly the priority dates start going backwards.

Canadian citizens still need a visa to immigrate. How does this bring them to the U.S. any faster?
