I will simplify it even more.

Average Joe Yank = very average to poor

Average Joe Aussie = doing quite well.

Rich Winthrop Yank = Mega mega rich

Rich Winthrop Aussie = average rich

Poor Lashanda Yank = dirt dirt poor

Poor Shazza Aussie = can still live an okay life

Regardless of class Yank = surrounded by run down towns, cities and ghettos. Needs to go to uninhabited nature to see some beauty.

Regardless of class Aussie = surrounded by beautiful modern clean cities.

Sounds like you arrived at this in a scientific manner. Where is your source? If this is based on your limited experience, excuse me if I don't swallow it whole.
