Rejected at SSA office

I don't think it's huge deal if you don't tick it - you'll probably get the same denotation on your card, as your entry is that of a K1. That's how the SSA employee should enter it in the system, and as such, it should still come with that denotation. Would defer to I Quit on that for sure.

Well if you apply in person at an office you don't even need an SS-5, so if they enter it into the system as work authorized and not a permanent resident or U.S. citizen, you should get the work authorized restricted card.

SSA is in the process of switching over to a new system (SSNAP) and with that if you apply at the office you don't need the SS-5 or even need to sign the application.

Thanks for the clarification - and the info about the new system! Look forward to using it next year when hubby becomes a citizen. :)
