We received an e-mail today from the NVC. They are saying that the marriage certificate isn't a valid certified copy, and the same thing for her birth certificate. Yet these things are apostle, translated in triplicate, and they are the same documents that were OK'd when we sent the original petition. So has anyone run into this before ?

______BIRTH CERTIFICATE:___________________________________________

The document you submitted is not an original or certified copy of an original issued by the

appropriate government authority. The document must be an original, or a certified copy of

the original, bearing the original seal or stamp from the issuing authority.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

The country of Belarus only gives you certified and apostile copy's. They worked just fine when we filed our CR-1 petition, and now when she sent her paperwork into the NVC they say they are not. Yet that paper work is from the government office in Minsk, Belarus, it is certified, and apostile , translated, etc...in triplicate in Russian/Belarusian and English.

The document you submitted is not an original or certified copy of an original issued by the

appropriate government authority.

I may be wrong, but it sounds like what you sent in was a xerox copy of the documents. They are asking for the originals-- the documents with the actual seal and/or stamp on them.

They only give you copy's of the original in Belarus. Then for an extra charge, they stamp them, apostile them, and then you take them to a government approved agency for translation. But I'm going to call NVC tomorrow and ask them what other people from Belarus did to make it right. I can't think of anything else to do at this point.

Sounds like a good plan. NVC, at least in my experience, is one of the few agencies in this entire process that sometimes is actually helpful when you call them. Good luck... and let us know the results.
