Hello everyone,

I have just located this site and think it is very informative....however, I am going to visit my significant other in about a month and would like to know if I should get engaged to her first OR go ahead and fill out the K1??? Also, can anyone supply me with some basic steps to the K1?

I have read the basic outline, but want to know if anyone have any tips or advice on doing so....Thank you so much and I am very grateful for finding this forum.

If she gets the K-1 visa, she has to agree to marry you within 90 days of her entry into the US, so you should ask her to be your wife before you start filling out paperwork.

But keep in mind, it doesn't have to be a big deal engagement with a ring right away and an engagement party. The two of you have to have already discussed and agreed to your engagement and commitment to marry. You can't fill out the K1 petition in hopes that she will agree to marry you if that's what you are asking.

Here's another good place to get an quick and easy overview of the process: http://www.ins-fiance-visa.com/ins-fiance-visa-process1.html

Your first step is to obviously meet! Then get engaged! Then once you are engaged you can apply for the K1 visa. Good Luck

Okay, not sure about this but since the K-1 visa is a fiancee visa, I would think that it would be self evident that she would have to be your Fiancee before you apply for the the "Fiancee" visa

One thing not to forget is that there is some of the K-1 that she has to sign and to save you time on International Shipments it probably would not be a bad idea to have that paperwork with you. I would at the very least go through the paperwork and familarize yourself with what you will need from her. Many end up filling out all that they know beforehand and once you propose to her sit down and together fill out and sign the remainer of the forms. As you probably alrady know you basically have to put your relationship on paper and it is a big help when the two of you work together in putting this together and providing information and records from each side.

Good luck and remember one thing..."Patients"
