Hi, do you mind sharing how you feel about your financial situation when it comes to paying bills and spending money in general?

I have my first job but I would't survive without my husband's support. Thx!

Before I even seriously dated my husband, I asked him how he felt about having a wife that only worked part-time and was a home-maker the rest of the time. He said he had no problem with that. So, that's what we do now.

I work 2 - 3 days a week and I do most of the housework, cooking, laundry and grocery shopping. We share the landscaping work because we both love it.

My husband earns in one day what I earn working four days, but we share the money we make together. I do all the banking and pay the bills with our money in our joint account.

It works for us, even though I have friends who have separate bank accounts and use their own money on things they want. That doesn't work for my husband and I. We feel like we are "partners" in every way, including the finances.

Thanks for sharing your experience raymaga. I also work part time so I have time to do housework and my husband really appreciates it. I love your partnership attitude. Even though we are married (half a year now) I don't feel confident ' using' money I haven't earned myself and I can't recall asking my husband for money. I think it's my pride. I am glad he is clever and buys what we need :-)

I make more than enough money that she does not have to work or worry about money. As a result, I tend to be very loose with money at times and she is able to keep me from throwing money away and save more in the long run...

Who pays more depends on who is making more, for my husband and me.

He paid most of our living cost when we lived together 5 years ago because he made more.

well, of the 4 and 1/2 years that I have been living here I have only worked the last year.. and only 2 days a week.... all our money gets put into one account and I take care of paying all the bills etc.. I also do all the housework, laundry and cooking...

my hubby is a bit loosey goosey with money.. so we have decided to let him have some cash each week that he can spend on whatever he wants...

we just put both our checks into the same checking account and write out the bills when they come and if anything is left we transfer it to our joint savings.

Ditto. That last step doesn't happen often enough though. <_<

same here ..lol

We've had some discussions on this - We are going to both pay into a pool of money and out of that comes our house expenses and such. Left overs get moved to savings. We have talked about having our own checking accounts for day to day expenses (gas, going out to lunch, presents...etc. Anything bigger than that (vacations, furniture, etc) comes out of the joint account and is jointly budgeted.

The separate accounts isn't so much about keeping finances separate as it is about convenience - if two people are simultaneously charging one account, there's a better chance that it will get overdrawn.

Nik also really hates the idea of living off of me - he's eager to get a job (part of the reason that he's coming over only a mere week before the wedding!
