My wife is pregnant and she just filed I-751.

She really wants to give birth in Korea, but we are afraid she won't be able to come back to the US with the baby once she leaves.

What will happen to the baby if born in Korea?

I really need help from someone who actually gave birth overseas and came back with the baby to the US.

I also heard that it takes long time for the baby to get a passport. How long did it take you?

I'm a USC and she is a conditional green card holder.

Please help.

Thx.

For persons born on or after November 14, 1986, a person is a U.S. citizen if all of the following are true:[5]

1. One of the person's parents was a U.S. citizen when the person in question was born;

2. The citizen parent lived at least 5 years in the United States before his or her child's birth;

3. A minimum of 2 of these 5 years in the United States were after the citizen parent's 14th birthday.

Article here. In all likelihood, the baby will be an automatic United States citizen because its father is a citizen.

Furthermore, if your wife's trip is of a temporary nature (i.e. just to have the baby), she should be able to return with no trouble, assuming the trip is less than six months in duration. She should just show her passport and conditional green card.

Be sure to register the baby's birth abroad with the US Consulate in Korea. The baby's record of birth abroad obtained from said consulate should be enough to allow return entry to the United States, without a passport.
