Strain on Relationship

For some stupid reason, I guess I thought as a USC I could marry my foreign sweetheart, and have her here within 6 months after starting the CR-1 immigration process.

So was my reasoning the product of my own insufficient research and/or was I in denial (i.e. La-La-Land) about the timing of this process?

We are both madly in love with each other, but a 1-year-plus immigration frustration, lonelieness, economic constraints, and just plain not being able to be together is NOT a good situation for any marriage... madly in love or not... and hearing my wife cry on the phone because she can't see me hurts deeply...

I am still inexperienced at digesting the all the statistics, charts, timelines, and wealth of info on this site... sometimes it seems to me that K1 visas are processed in 4-6 months (i.e. fiances arrive in USA quickly), which makes me think I should have gone that route...

Other times it seems there is a HUGE number of people whether K1, K3, CR-1, etc. that are just taking 1+ years for the couple to be united... I certainly didn't realize I was signing up for THAT program... and my wife sure didn't either... :crying:

Second-guessing your chosen immigration path is pointless now. You'll make yourself crazy with all of that... you've made your choice, so you're better off now focusing your energy on keeping your marriage alive while you are apart. You married each other because you thought you were each worth it... now it's time to prove it to one another.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Isabel:

So far, I've been overwhelmed with just trying to understand the CR-1. Initially I looked at the the K3 as just extra, unnecessary paperwork, but I will consider anything that can get my wife here faster. Thanks for the suggestion and the moral support.

Lisa D:

Thanks for the pep talk... right now every little bit helps!

Being apart from each other and not being able to share the little things each day is very difficult. It will be worth it when it does finally happen. Chin up and work on trying to get through the rough patches of being apart and know it will be over soon.
