Wak2.png The Wak-wak is a bird-like creature that comes out at night looking for victims. The sound the Wak-wak makes is usually associated with the presence of an Unglu (vampire); other folkloric sources indicate that the Wak-wak may itself be a form of the Unglu.

I grew up so scared of this... It was believed that they also steal unborn babies from the mother's wombs... That is why I hated it whenever my ex stepmother would get pregnant.

Ilocano Folklore

According to one Ilocano origin myth, a giant named Aran built the sky and hung the sun, moon, and stars in it. Under their light, Aran's companion, the giant Angalo, could see the land, which he then molded into mountains and valleys. The giants found the world they had created windswept and desolate. Angalo spat on the earth, and from his spit emerged the first man and woman. He placed them in a bamboo tube that he tossed into the sea. The bamboo washed up on the shore of the Ilocos region, and from this couple came the Ilocano people.

More on Angalo:

That the sea became salty was due to Angalo, according to Ilocano legend. In the beginning the sea, whose water was Angalo's urine, was not salty. The story is told that he, his wife, and their three daughters, while carrying salt to Manila from a land across the sea, stumbled with their loads of salt in the middle of the sea, and since then the sea has been salty! :star:
