...and if the free market dictates you wear a dog collar and eat dog food from a bowl, you'll happily oblige.

Oh, Col. you forgot to mention. Louisiana is completely and totally run by Democrats

Bobby Jindal is a Democrat?

No he isn't, and you think he runs the state? The legislature is solidly democrat. Seems to me I remember a recent post about Bill Clinton signing the bill that made possible our current recession and that was immediately blamed on the Republican congress, but the reverse doesn't hold. Typical. Jindahl was only recently elected after the appaling performance of the former democrat governor, the legislature remains in democrat hands as well as the ciy of New Orleans which has tremendous leverage on the rest of the state.

It's time for a reality check:

If "Louisiana is completely and totally run by Democrats," maybe you would care to explain to everyone how a bill can be passed into law without the signature of Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, since Louisiana Democrats don't have the numbers in their State Legislature to override the Governor's veto.

Once you explain that, maybe you would care to explain to everyone how "Louisiana is completely and totally run by Democrats" despite the fact that their Secretary of State, their State Treasurer, their Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry, and their Commissioner of Insurance are all Republicans.

And, by the way, for your future information, six out of seven of Louisiana's U.S. Congressmen are Republicans, and one out of two of their U.S. Senators is Republican.

New Orleans probably has the lion's share of the Democrats.

Lax labor laws in the south led many a northern based corporation to head south, particularly during the energy crisis. But they learned their AC electrical operating cost far exceeded the heating cost up north. So they packed up again and headed further south into Mexico. That didn't last too long either because the found cheaper labor and even more relaxed labor laws across the pond headed east. Think they call that China or something like that.

Just be happy you found a job.

Wife is suppose to get two 15 minute breaks and a half hour lunch, seldom gets her breaks and misses many of her lunch periods. But she works in a hospital and the patients come first, but also gets a darn good paycheck. So to make up for it, give her extra breaks at home, even a back rub.

That's a relief. How is the local economy where you two are living? You are teaching at a university? Is it more a university-type of community?

There are jobs listed in the newspaper, but i can only imagine how many applicants for each one... it is rough (i think it is rough everywhere). And my husband's only a year in this country, his references are all out of town, he has an unusual name, a heavy accent... all the things many of our spouses contend with when they first arrive. It is true, we are just happy he found work... but i think it's only natural to keep an eye out to make sure our spouses are getting treated fairly in this work place, right? Today seems to have been better than yesterday.

i'm teaching one class at the university in exchange for full tuition, a modest stipend, and very basic health insurance (thank God!). It's enough to pay most of the bills, but we need the second income to cover the rest of the expenses, and plus for my husband's state of mind. Sittin' home all day, not doing much isn't good for his head.
