I have employer based insurance for my new husband, however, until his son (aged 20) can become a full time college student (one year) my plan won't cover him.

Do you have any recomedations on who to check with and are there issues with the immigration status?

As long as he has a SS# there should not be any issues in regards to his immigration status. Try calling a couple medical insurance companies for quotes and see which is the best mix of coverage vs cost. I'd say start with the one you have, maybe they'll give a discount since some of the family is insured through them.

You can get short term immigrant insurance. That's what my husband got until he could be covered by my plan. The company was Global something or other - sorry I can't recall specifically (I'm sure googling "immigant insurance" will turn up some results). They offer policies for various terms.
