Timing of physical (Montreal)

We just returned our Packet 3 and now the next waiting game begins!

We are thinking of waiting to schedule the physical until after we receive the interview date so we can do it just a day or two before the actual interview - so we don't have to make an extra trip to Montreal.

Anyone think this is a bad idea? Sounds like Medisys is pretty easy to schedule so I'm thinking we shouldn't have any problems at all.

That's a good idea, many people do that so you're all good! No reason to make a trip twice to Montreal, unless you live really close by

The only word of caution I would give, is make sure you have everything you could possibly need when you go for the medical. If you're missing vaccination information or something of that nature, your results could be delayed and you wouldn't have them in time for your interview, delaying the visa approval. I think the Medisy's in Montreal will give you any vaccinations you are missing for a fee, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Its actually not a complete physical either, so don't worry about things being stuck up unnamed... areas... :hehe:

Where in Canada are you from? If you're close to Toronto you can go there too. (I'm sure you know that)

If it's feasible I would get it out of the way as soon as you can just to ensure everything is OK. If there's a problem like a missing vaccination it might delay things. I was short a vaccination at my medical and I had to leave and go to another doctor to get it, then fax them confirmation of that before they could clear me.

Hey I just read that you were missing a vaccination for the Toronto Medical. I am going there as well but Im just worried about my MMR vaccination (I was born in India so don't have official documentation for the vaccination). The lady at the doctors office in T.O. said I could get a blood test done that gives the titres and takes about 2 weeks. But if the results arent avail on time, can I still fax them to Dr. S in Toronto so they can clear me for the medical or would they just reject me if everything is not up to date by the medical date??

Thanks for any help!!! I just want all this to be over!

Your interview isn't until November, plenty of time to get the titer. You can go and get it today if you like, no reason to wait :)

That also gives you time to get the injections with your local Doctor if you find that you don't have immunity.

If you are missing anything they send you to get your medical and then you either have to send or fax your proof back into them, so if you get the titre and its not quite ready when you have your medical, they will just hold it until you have proof that you either have the immunity or that you have gotten the shot.

I ensured that I had all of my vaccinations, etc.. up to date and on letterhead from my doctor months before even scheduling the medical.

I had my medical in Montreal (via Medisys) a week before my interview. I picked up the results the day of my interview at 7:00am, as my embassy interview was @ 8:00am. Worked out perfectly-I walked from the Medisys building to the Embassy in 10 minutes' time.

when it comes to the medical what are they looking for. Reason why I ask is my husband was taking medication for depression that he is trying to get off of .. will that hurt his chances of being aproved?

They are mainly looking for communicable diseases like HIV that can be spread to others. They also look for any history of drug and/or alcohol abuse. I doubt your husbands history of depression will effect his eligibility for a visa. If asked make sure he is completely honest and discloses any medication he is taking or has taken. It would also be smart to bring a note from his doctor indicating the nature and severity of his illness, in case they are suspicious or curious about it, if possible. I really don't think it will be a problem for you.
