My I-130s were approved on August 31, according to an email from Nairobi. But in dozens of requests by email, telephone, and via Congressman's office over the 4 months prior to that, I never received a "receipt number". o

I was a resident in Burundi but had to file thru Nairobi for my Colombia South American wife who resided in Burundi with me. Fees were paid in Bujumbura Burundi and the receipt from the Embassy has a receipt number that is not recognized by anyone else.

I was told that the petitions have been forwarded to the consular (IV unit) in Bogota, Colombia but it has been 30 days and I have no means of checking status. Do I simply wait?

Back in May, I had waited for Nairobi to do something and after weeks of not hearing anything I managed to get someone on the phone who told me that they had lost my application. It took a Congressional office getting involved for the matter to get on track again; they had signed for the FedEX package but had misplaced it.

I know this takes time but I am trying to be proactive. One of the files on this site advised, "NVC receives I-130 approval from the USCIS. Do not wait for I-130 approval notice from the USCIS. ..... You need your I-130 Receipt Number to check the status.

Incidentally, I am not back in the U.S. and my wife is back in Colombia. Waiting.

More than a little frustrated.... Would appreciate someone's counsel.

Many Thanks
