They seem to be stuck in a 60's design... Most of them actually look like the ones my grand-grandma had. Yes well, post WWII.

Welcome to the good and OLD......hahahaah

and that is not the only thing STUCK in the 60's.....

wait until u meet some GOOD OLD BOYS.....they stuck in the previous century......

So I am having mixed feeling about American appliances, hopefully I will find the vaccum of my dreams when I get there :)

You can get European brands like Miele and Bosch here too ;)

I love the capacity American washers and dryers have, they are much faster too. My only gripe is that I only get a faint scent of my detergent or fabric softener...I think the size of the wash loads dilutes it so much...my laundry in the UK smelled so good! The cookers are much bigger over here which I prefer. I really despise my vacuums, they are totally #######...I don't know if its because my husband chose them or if its the thick carpet but neither are a patch on my old UK hoover. My kettle is the same style as my English one, looks great but is alot slower to boil...maybe it has something to do with the voltage being different over here......but all in all, (apart from my hoovers) I like my American appliances, even the design.

I just did a quick search and I found this vacuum at Sears for about 90 bucks...

I have that vacuum! We actually bought it at k-mart when we first arrived in the U.S., last year - but it was like $25  It was one of those purchases where you go - let's just get something cheap and we will look at REAL vacuums later.

It's really a bad machine and I wouldn't recommend it. The first one we bought a piece broke off in the first week, we returned it and got another one and it worked kind of ok for a while but then the power bar stopped working - which is really too bad because it's small and really light weight.

They are just a tiny bit pricey! :wow:

We have a Miele dishwasher which is super quiet and I love it.

On the other hand, our Whirlpool washer and dryer set isn't too bad either, no complaints.

I just hate the toploaders, but hubby got rid of those a long time before we even met.

The design of the American appliances is definitely nicer than the German ones are!

I definitely prefer the American appliances. My experience with laundry elsewhere has been less favorable. It never had that "downy" feeling. Either that or my clothes come out crusty coz the water is too hard.

Try the iRobot vaccum cleaner... very functional. Give him a name too because it has a life of its own.

I'm in the UK now, and I am missing my US appliances. The drier here takes nearly 2 hours! And then they were often not even dry. I haven't actually used it since the end of May. I have become the queen of hanging clothes out (or in currently). We are saving 7-10£ per week by not using it, which I love. I can't WAIT to have a full size fridge. Going from a full size for just me to a mini fridge for a family of 4 has really been a challenge.

The other day our oven blew one of the heating coils. It was traumatic! There was a loud buzzing noise, and the oven turned blue. It put out enough smoke to have the alarms going of for (what seemed like) a long time!

I asked the repair guy why it did that, seeing as this stove is only 2-3 years old. He said "they don't make 'em like they used to.
