I know what you're talking about!!!

My fiancé's family has a lot of weird stuff that looks very old, like their washing machine. The fridge is pretty much the same as we have in my country. And the vacuum cleaner is weird also lol. Never seen a thing they have ever before XD

Also weird that his family never heard of blanket covers.... Anyone else had this? We have like these colloured and designed covers for our blanket and they just have a colloured or designed blanket =P

Love is patient and kind;

it is not jealous or conceited or proud;

love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable;

love does not keep a record of wrongs;

love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth.

Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.

Love is eternal.

Blanket covers..... are you talking about Duvet covers? Like you have a plain white down comforter and you put a duvet cover over it? We Americans have heard of these things. ;) We just don't use them all that much. Hehe... I actually cannot stand duvets. When I lived in Europe my husband had them and they drove me crazy. With not staying in place and getting big bulges in the middle. When we came back to the US, he actually now likes just having a comforter without the need of the duvet. I find it much more practical.

When I was over there we had this horribly outdated washer and dryer... it was a stackable and it barely fit anything in it. I had to do laundry like every day cause you could put like 10 things in it and it was full.

The electricity over there was very unstable too. We were constantly replacing the fuses because having the dryer on with the microwave would blow the fuses... was very annoying.

There are many appliances 'made for the USA market' that are not made in the USA.

Some of the same manufacturers make models 'for the French market' or 'the Italian market' or 'the UK market'.

I challenge you to buy appliances in USA with a country of origin of 'USA'. It's d@mn near impossible, unless you purchase it used or refurbished.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Ahh I have a Samsung washing machine here in France too, I love it. I have like kazillions of different programms, I like to set it exactly the way I want. Not just Cold/Cold, Cold/Hot; Hot/Hot.

I don't even get why there should be one temperature for the wash and another for the rince...?

Ok so you understand the Vacuum cleaner problem.

How are you supposed to clean your stairs with the american model? I don't know! ;)

There's the same problem with showers, there's no flexible neck tube whatever thingy in the US!

It's very handy! Especially when you clean it... I don't know how to clean a shower or a bathtub without a flexible tube hand thingy (gosh I hope you'll understand this...)

How do you do, do you take a bucket with you?

I'm sure the American dyson has a pull out attachment for stairs, as it should for the prices they charge, but I agree with you, the upright vacuum was one of the stupidest inventions ever and I refuse to use one! They weigh a ton and hauling them around is just a pain.

In NZ, around 15 years ago, I had a combo washer/dryer, although rarely used the dryer as we hung the clothes outside. It was front loading and really washed well. I'm not sure if they have improved on the dryer aspect, but it took ages to dry anything, a washer doesn't generally have the room to dry as efficiently as a machine designed to be a dryer.

I also agree with you about the hand shower, which is what I think you are talking about and yes - that's exactly what you have to do, get a bucket or a large cup to rinse it after cleaning - and yes it is backwards :lol:

Well you can, but we are renting at the moment so that's not really an option.

Oh Marilyn, Marilyn, Marilyn :hehe:

I thought you would know me better than that by now, I do actually know how to change a showerhead and install a hand shower :lol:

I guess you haven't read my posts about this apartment we are living in - I wouldn't even attempt to change anything to do with plumbing, I suspect the thing would just fall off the wall.

I am a big "vaccumer", and I have to say, I HATE American vaccums! They are so big and not flexible. There is no efficient and easy way to vaccum the stairs or under the furniture.

I also have to agree on the shower-head problem. With no flexible how can I wash the bathtub, or even myself?!

I lived there for a year and in the house these 2 things quite bothered me daily.

As for the washing machines I really appreciate that they have a huge capicity capared to French ones, besides the cycles are much faster. However I regret that you can not set the exact temperature on the standard models. For example on the ones I have used I have never been able to boil my sheets or table clothes.

Fridges are nice and huge, but are not that convenient inside. Not that many shelves so in the end it is usually a big mess.

So I am having mixed feeling about American appliances, hopefully I will find the vaccum of my dreams when I get there :)
