Hello everyone,

We have received our I-129 approval and my fiancée has received the appointment letter. My question is if the DS-230 is required. her appointment letter didn't state so and the page on the web that it referenced didn't list it as a requirement. She has filled this form out but there is no clear instruction for it. She will be making her appointment later this week. Any information is greatly appreciated.

The DS-230 is an immigrant visa application form. The K1 is a non-immigrant visa. The beneficiary doesn't become an immigrant until they marry the petitioner in the US. Because immigration is ultimately the goal of the K1, some consulates ask for the DS-230 in packet 3. Some ask for it in packet 4. Some want part 1 returned with packet 3, and part 2 signed in front of the CO at the interview.

Manila apparently doesn't want the DS-230 at all for the K1. It wouldn't hurt to check out the regional forum for the Philippines and see if anyone has had to submit a DS-230 for a K1.

a friend of mine had the option to use the ds-230 form if she wanted to apply through the american embassy in singapore (because this is the form they use whether people are applying as K1 or K3,)or not use it if she wanted to apply in manila.

if you check the form it's used for visa applications done for family members. since you and your fiancee are technically not a family yet, the USEM does not require that you use that.

just the 156, 156k and 157 are required by the USEM

she chose USEM,
