My future hubby did not graduate from high school due to family issues and him moving out from home at 16. I am wondering if he will be able to get a GED upon enterance into the U.S. on the Fiance Visa in order for him to apply to schools and obtain a job after AOS after we're married.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

04/02/2012-Packaged arrived at Vermont Service Center-Signed by D. Renaud

04/05/2012- check cashed

04/07/2012- Recvd NOA in mail dated 04/03/2012

05/14/12-Biometrics Appointment- Completed

12/31/12-Production of card ordered text/email

In Florida a SSN is needed to sit the exam...not sure how it is in other states, but he can do the classes at any time. As long as the SSA where you are gives him the SSN, as I know some tend to be wary of giving them to K visa holders, even though they are entitled to them. Good luck and yay for furthering his education!

Kim; lawd mi did a tink bout u...

Dens from my experience and family and friends that have taking the GED here in the states...since most of the GED programs are state FUNDED, he will have to have his greencard in hand...so, he will not be able to take the classes until he has his greencard. This information may vary by state. I helped a friend sign his wife up for GED classes here in Maryland and one of the questions they asked was if he was a permanent resident. I'm not sure what state your in...start with your community college and see where they direct you...I don't think the fiance visa have anything to do with it...

There are classes available - and you can help him start now by buying him a GED prep book - that way, the two of you can see where he needs additional studying / education -

My fiancee is 5th grade, don't sweat it. I know some things will come easy with life experience while others (history, geography) will be more difficult. The Thai education system is very inward looking so she needs to learn the rest of the world isn't just "foreigner" but a wealth of cultures, foods and histories.

My fiancee will get her GED after she conquers English. No worries!

8/3/08 K-1 I 129f Sent (Atty Ofc made mistake delayed app, we learned later)

8/14/08 NOA-1

1/23/09 RFE Color Passport Picture

1/29/09 RFE Color Pics sent

2/3/09 RFE Pics USCIS acknowledged

4/28/09 NOA-2

5/01/09 NVC Received

5/01/09 Left NVC

5/15/09 Embassy Sent Packet 3 (we did not receive-they have correct addresses)

6/19/09 Packet 3 to Embassy

6/28/09 Appointment (packet 4) never mailed, had to ask to get email-they've got correct addresses

7/23/09 Interview Scheduled for 7:00am (A YEAR AFTER SUBMISSION)!!!!!!!!!!! APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7/28/09 Pick up visa

8/11/09 She came to the USA with me!
