Hi does anyone know how much daycare costs in the Boston area? Are 2nd-income spouses actually quitting jobs if its coming out to be the same? For the second income v. day care?

Day care costs in Boston are outrageous. We have a baby on the way so have been looking into costs. Bright Horizons, which is the top-end center, is $1900/month for full-time infant care.

We've considered my husband staying home since day care costs rival his take-home pay, but will most likely figure out some kind of arrangement that involves a combination of each of us shuffling our hours around, help from family, and part-time center care. We also might look into home-care scenarios if we can find one that we trust. The full-time center scenario is just too much.

Now I'm definitely having kids when we return to Europe.

That's one of the main reasons why we've put starting a family on hold. Day care costs can go up as $300-$400 per week here in Denver, so about $1200-$1600 per month just for one child. There's no way we can afford that and no way one of us can quit our jobs. It definitely makes sense not to have any children at all.
