LOL. It depends on the airline and your destination. Aer Lingus actually charges half the fare if you need to one way trip only. But that's only from CDG to Boston. Not sure of other US destination. :-)

Someone told me once that it depended on the airline, on whether or not they would make you buy a round trip ticket or not. Not sure how accurate that is though. I have checked airline prices online, and have seen that some airlines are cheaper buying roundtrip rather that one way. I have always found Orbitz to be cheapest, especially if you fly out Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Check various days and see if the price gets lower.
